SUMMARY

Employees in this job role have advanced knowledge of aerospace systems and perform all aspects of electrical engineering work including research, development, and designs to ensure that manufacturing, construction, installation, and operational testing conform to functional specifications and regulatory / customer requirements. The employee will lead a collaborative team and will contribute to various projects under minimal direct supervision.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinate and provide technical guidance related to the technical aspects of Electrical engineering activities, requirements, and deliverables in support of Engineering Certification (STC) projects within the ALOFT ECODA (Engineering, Certification and ODA) group.
  • Mentor team of Electrical engineers and liaison engineer(s) providing engineering support to hangar operations (including, but not limited to: Auxiliary Fuel Systems (AFS) installations, VVIP interior completions/refurbishments, avionic system installations, and general maintenance on 14 CFR Part 23 and 25 aircraft), in-house manufacturing backshops, and external vendors.
  • Where applicable, provide technical guidance and/or best practice experiences in a mentoring-type role with Electrical engineers within the team.
  • Review Electrical engineering data (analysis/substantiation data, design data, etc), as well as project-specific certification plans (PSCPs) and provide necessary technical input to ensure compliance with applicable 14 CFR Part 23, 25, 27, 29 regulatory requirements, as required.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements pertaining to Electrical Engineering / Liaison Engineering activities. Develop and implement effective process improvements which target increased efficiencies and quality of Electrical Engineering / Liaison Engineering support.
  • Coordinate with other Principal Engineers to identify opportunities for process improvements across the entire organization (Hangar Ops, Quality, Manufacturing) pertaining to general Engineering activities.
  • Coordinate/interface with multi-discipline engineering teams and FAA Designated Engineering Representative (DER) or ALOFT ODA Unit Members as required. Coordination with DERs or ODA Unit Members may often require coordination with outside engineering vendors.
  • Recommend required training/learning for Electrical Engineering team to ensure the team possesses necessary tools, knowledge and skillsets required in order to provide fast, effective engineering support to hangar operations, in-house manufacturing backshops, and external vendors. Identify and coordinate necessary training as required.
  • Provide input based on technical requirements for Electrical engineering estimates (Non-Recurring Engineering [NRE] / Recurring Engineering [RE]) for required Electrical Engineering support as part of engineering quotes/bids on new programs.
  • Provide input for the coordination and management of offload of Electrical engineering activities to outside vendors, as required.
  • Document actions by completing all required time keeping records.
  • Complete initial / recurrent training requirements in a timely manner.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide training, guidance, and mentorship for the team.
  • Prioritize and assign tasks; examine work output for completeness, process conformance and timeliness.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the minimum knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Bachelor's degree (B. S.) in Electrical Engineering from four-year college or university or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 12+ years practical work experience in a directly related job role.
  • Previous Supervisory experience preferred but not required.
  • Demonstrated proven skills in the specific areas such as Electrical Engineering and CMS/IFE and other aircraft electronic systems integrations.
  • Must have leadership ability and be able to effectively lead an Electrical Engineering Project Team.
  • Effective communication skills both verbally & in writing with superiors, colleagues, and individuals inside and outside the company.
  • Effective organization skills including the ability to prioritize and plan work for self and team members.
  • Effective analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Must be detail oriented with the ability to multi-task.
  • Ability and willingness to work extended hours, when needed.
  • Always maintain a positive and professional attitude, while setting a positive example for all employees.

  • Read, write and understand the English language.
  • Write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
