About New York Junior Tennis & Learning

New York Junior Tennis and Learning (NYJTL) is one of the largest afterschool tennis and education-themed community organizations in the United States. We offer comprehensive school and community-based programs throughout New York City’s five boroughs, serving more than 85,000 youth ages 5-18 every year.

The NYJTL afterschool program provides children with safe and nurturing environments in which they can learn and thrive academically, while receiving critical support to reach their potential both on and off the tennis court. The NYJTL afterschool program operates in elementary, middle and high schools located in the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan and Queens. NYJTL is seeking bright, dedicated individuals who have a strong interest in working with after-school programs.

Position Summary

Part-time work, lifelong impact!

Group Leaders have a positive impact on every child and the NYJTL program overall by keeping students engaged, empowered and safe. They represent the core of our team, supporting and mentoring children on a daily basis while developing their own skills and experience in youth development.

Group Leaders manage up to 30 children in and out of the classroom, partnering with Activity Specialists to deliver pre-designed curricula across a variety of categories. Some of the activities are tennis-related and many are not – no tennis experience required, but certainly welcome!

Ideal candidates will be highly motivated, organized, and able to manage large groups of children. They should have knowledge of after-school programs, the mandates of the NYC Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) and Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOH). While Group Leaders are responsible for 30 children, they will be part of a program impacting 150 enrolled students each day.

  • Demonstrate key competencies including initiative, teamwork, cooperation, preparedness, professionalism, reliability, and a willingness to continuously improve.

  • Adhere to policies and procedures in a proactive manner, making the safety and care of children your primary focus.
