Job Functions, Duties, Responsibilities and Position Qualifications:

Position:  Problem Resolution - Cytology

Position Summary:  To perform a variety of problem resolution and clerical tasks carrying independent judgment.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Reports Cytology results to CPL clients
  • Act as a liaison between the Cytology laboratory and CPL clients
  • Trouble shoots and resolves problems with client.
  • Act as a liaison between the Cytology department and other CPL departments.
  • Trouble shoots and resolves problems with other CPL regions.

  • Files both normal and abnormal slides for future reference
  • Perform related clerical and other duties including operation of various office machines, and special laboratory equipment.
  • Aid sister department with laboratory tasks.

Scope:  Responsible for assigned clerical tasks.  Responsible for adherence to safety requirements involved with specimen handling.  Promotes quality client relations and creates supportive climate by serving as a role model.  Respects and maintains the confidentiality of information relative to the laboratory. Adheres to laboratory policies and regulations. Works with minimal direction; consults with cytotechnologists and Cytology Support Lead and supervisor as needed.  Operates general laboratory equipment, including but not limited to: telephones, computer keyboards, manual and automated stainers.  Effectively communicates via written, verbal, face-to-face, telephone and computer methods.

This role will have routine access to Protected Health Information (PHI). Employees will be trained on reasonable safeguards and are expected to maintain strict confidentiality, as well as abide by all applicable privacy and security standards.  Employees are expected only to access PHI when it is required to fulfill job duties.

Education: High School Diploma or GED

Experience:

Required - one year of general clerical related duties and problem resolution experience.

Preferred - two years of general office experience to include pathology lab experience.

 

Accuracy:  Proficiency in learning and performing all phases of assigned duties.  Thoroughness in reporting information to supervisors as necessary.

Physical Demands:  Requires light to medium lifting and carrying of objects weighing up to 50 pounds.  Requires manipulation of tools, objects and equipment using the following physical motions: pushing, pulling, lifting, reaching above shoulder height, grasping with both hands, pinching with thumb and forefinger, twisting with hand and wrist, climbing under, lifting up, lifting down and reaching under.  Routinely requires coordination of two or more physical operations.  Routinely requires visual discrimination of color, size and shape.  Requires ability to hear audible alarms on

automated stainers, bell timers and cytospins.

Environmental Demands:  Works in temperature controlled environment.  May come into contact with contagious pathogens and hazardous chemicals.  May be required to operate fire and safety equipment or follow other safety procedures in an emergency situation.  May be required to work with time constraints and crisis situations.
