Summary
Assists the Manager with directing and overseeing daily ultrasound operations. Perform all routine, special, and vascular ultrasound procedures while working under the direction of the radiologist. Provide patients with safe, courteous and efficient care. Assist in other sections of the department as needed.
This is a lead position assisting the manager with directing staff.
Position Reports To: Radiology Manager
Essential Functions
- Schedules Ultrasound staff including call rotation schedule keeping it up to date. Ensures that the proper staff are assigned to examinations and procedures based on competencies that match the job/procedure.
- Trains, mentors and provides management with input for ultrasound staff appropriately. Assists with interviewing applicants as needed.
- Reviews procedure protocols with Chief Modality Radiologist and communicates with ultrasound staff when changes occur.
- Communicate changes in policies and procedures to the ultrasound staff.
- Maintain and order supplies as needed.
- Participates and promotes active participation in the Quality Improvement Audits and programs as requested including Confluence Health Value System.
- Prepares for and performs diagnostic medical sonography examinations and procedures in accordance with professional and facility protocols in a safe manner as instructed.
- Maintains the cleanliness of the ultrasound unit and associated minor equipment in accordance with infection control policies and procedures. Calls service in for services repairs and informs management of repairs needed. Stays on schedule with PM inspections.
- Displays proper sterile technique for surgery & biopsy procedures.
- Places lab specimens in proper location with proper labeling and forms filled in with correct patient information.
- Use proper patient positioning tools, devices, equipment adjustment, and ergonomically correct scanning techniques to ensure patient comfort and safety, and to prevent compromised data acquisition or musculoskeletal injury to the sonographer.
- Required to take standby and be on call as needed. If on call, will be available within 20 minutes of notification of need. (CWH)
- Utilizes PACS, RIS, and current EMR efficiently and completes required paperwork for each examination performed.
- Maintains licensures/certifications in current and good standing and complies with all continuing education requirements as dictated by regulatory entities.
- Required to maintain active Basic Life Support (CPR) certification.
- Other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements

Qualifications
Required:
- Completion of an education program approved by the ARDMS with clinical experience in ultrasound.
- ARDMS registered in one or more special areas (OB/GYN, ABD).
- ARDMS registered in vascular technology (RVT).
Desired:
- Preferably five years working experience as a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer I or II.
