Job Description

The CDL operator will provide transportation services in the counties in which GCTD operates, responsible for the safe and efficient operation of vehicles, and always required to perform professionally.

REQUIRED JOB DUTIES, ABILITIES, TRAITS

  • Ability to deal professional, ethically, and effectively with customers, co-workers, vendors, and the public, including providing prompt and courteous customer service
  • Ability to express self clearly and effectively, orally and in writing
  • Adherence to all GCTD policies and procedures
  • Assist dispatcher, lead bus operator, managers, or directors with office responsibilities as requested
  • Assist passengers on and off vehicles
  • Attend all mandatory program or staff meetings
  • Collect and record bus fares per GCTD procedures
  • Ensure that vehicle is maintained appropriately and complies with safety standards, including completing and or submitting daily vehicle trip inspections, cleaning the vehicle, or any other operator duties which may be assigned
  • Maintain documentation according to GCTD policies and procedures
  • Notification of late arrivals and or cancellation of service, clerical work answering telephones, directing calls, and or transit scheduling
  • Notify dispatcher of delays more than 10 minutes in schedule and when needed
  • Notify the dispatcher, transportation manager, lead bus operator, or the director of operations immediately of problems concerning the safe and efficient operation of the vehicle, including any necessary repairs or maintenance concerns
  • Notify the lead operator, transportation manager, director of operations, or officer coordinator of any problems or complaints by the end of the business day before clocking out
  • Out of region travel may be required to attend training
  • Pick up and drop off passengers according to a schedule
  • Provide professional, responsive, and efficient service and assistance when required
  • Provide passengers assistance when requested
  • Provide prompt and courteous service to passengers, customers, vendors, co-workers, and the public
  • Requires ability to work collaboratively in a team setting
  • Submit incident and or accident reports by the end of the business day before clocking out to the lead operator or manager
  • Treat all individuals with courtesy, decency, respect, and professionalism always.
  • Will be responsible and accountable for the adherence to and promotion of the GCTD policies and procedures and will require communication with various departments and co-workers to foster, develop and continue our community partnerships as it relates to the position
  • Working knowledge and ability to drive transit type vehicles with a passenger capacity of more than sixteen (16) passengers
  • Working knowledge of the operation of wheelchair lifts

SUPERVISION

  • Receives direct supervision from transportation manager

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • English proficiency
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize work
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational and planning skills
  • Requires proficiency with computer hardware and software such as basic computer operating a computer with a keyboard and mouse, navigation with a web browser, checking & sending email, and internet search engines

REQUIRED EDUCATION

  • High School Diploma or GED. Extensive work experience in lieu of education may be considered

REQUIRED LICENSURE & CERTIFICATIONS

  • Requires a valid Texas commercial driver's license class B or better with a P and an airbrake endorsement
  • A valid and current D.O.T. medical card
  • At minimum liability insurance and no more than 3 moving and safety violations within the past 3 years.

PREFERRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Any education or experience above the required education and job duties of the position are preferred and will be evaluated as it relates to experience

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • May require travel to various locations within Brazoria and Galveston Counties
  • Work hours will be assigned based on GCTD business needs and may include varied work hours, weekends, holidays, irregular hours, mornings, evenings, split shifts, and overtime
  • Out of region travel may be required to attend training
  • Work will be performed in the office, field, and or remote settings

SPECIAL PROJECTS

  • Assist lead bus operator, manager, dispatcher, or director when requested to complete special projects and complete all assignments within a negotiated time frame
  • Completion of other duties as assigned by supervisor as it relates to the program and position

  • Ability to transport, adjust, and or move items up to 50 lbs.

  • Ability to detect and write effectively
  • Ability to hear with or without aid
  • Ability to have visual acuity to operate a motor vehicle and observe objects within the work setting
  • Required to maintain DOT physical requirements
  • Required to maintain driver’s license eligibility; to include CDL based on position
