Relief Staff (Part-Time) – at Safe Passage Youth Transitional Housing Program
Relief Staff provide supervision and support to runaway and homeless youth ages 18-24, at CHS’ Safe Passage Youth Transitional Housing Program in Monterey. Safe Passage is open every day of the week, with weekdays having a night shift from 6pm-3:30am, and weekends having day shift from 8:30am-6pm and a night shift from 6pm-3:30am. Staff ensure the stability safety of the clients and facility. Relief Staff may assist clients in areas of program functioning as designated by the Program Coordinator and/or the Program Officer. Program duties include, but are not limited to: documenting client activities, general cleaning and sanitation, oversight of kitchen, pantry, computer usage, common areas, bedrooms rooms, laundry machines, etc. Staff assist residents with basic independent living skills including but not limited to: cooking, cleaning, job prep, schoolwork, etc. Ensures all residents are home by curfew, following house rules, program guidelines, and community expectations. Staff provide emotional support to clients, as well as support through life skills instruction, and must have appropriate boundaries with clients. Shelter Monitor’s contact staff and/or authorities in the event of client or facility emergencies. If the candidate for this position is in recovery, they must have documented completion from an alcohol and/or drug treatment program and have one year sobriety from alcohol and other drugs. Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: Relief Staff must be responsible and knowledgeable of program guidelines and rules. They must arrive to work on time, and must have demonstrated problem -solving skills, and be able to assist in managing a variety of situations. Shelter Monitors are required to work within defines limits, subject to direct instruction. They must be able to relate to persons of varied backgrounds, and have familiarity in substance abuse, mental health, and homelessness challenges. Candidates for this position must demonstrate the ability to work effectively with young adults. Candidates must be computer literate, and have the ability to work independently, as well as with colleagues.
Pay $19.04-$23.14 per hour. Additional 5% bilingual Spanish speaking stipend.
