Job Description

This is a full time day shift position for 8-10 hour shifts. working 40 hours per week; with on call requirements. Schedule is dictated by the surgery schedule that that requires flexibility to meet the needs of the department and patients. While this position is primarily day shift, call rotation is required. The position reports to the Director of Perioperative Services.

Qualifications:
  • Certification by the National Association of Surgical Technician’s required
  • Previous surgical technician experience preferred.
  • Current BLS certification required.
  • Responsible to take call and must live within a 45 minute response time.
  • Must be able to maintain ongoing compliance and/or education related to the Surgical Technician Field.
Skill and Ability:
  • Co-responsibility with the registered professional nurse for correct counts of instruments, sponges, needles, and sharps.
  • Responsible for maintaining a working knowledge of the identification and labeling of medications on the sterile field.
  • Sets up the sterile field back table and Mayco stand with instruments, supplies, equipment and labeling medications/solutions needed for the procedure.
  • Knowledge and practice of correct positioning of patients.
  • Knowledge and practice of safety in transporting of patients.
  • Knowledge and responsibility for correct instrumentation according to size and/or age of patient.
  • Knowledge and responsibility for correct prostheses for each procedure.
  • Assists the team members with gowning, gloving, and draping the patient
  • Participates in the surgical site and patient verification during the timeout procedure.
  • Able to meet the physical demands of the position.
  • Ability to participate in current and future training programs in order to learn new functions necessary for the OR to provide new and improved services.
