Overview

The Mortgage Staff Accountant will focus on the day to day operations of the Mortgage Accounting department and is the primary associate responsible for maintaining reconciliations, creation of proper audit documentation to ensure compliance with SOX controls. The mortgage staff account will assist in month end close and ensure that financial statements are accurately stated, which include understanding when processes are not working as intended or are able to identify abnormalities in reconciliations and journal entries.

Responsibilities
    Assist in coding Mortgage invoices as necessary for the Corporate Accounts Payable team to process if needed
  • Monitor our vendor listings to ensure invoices are paid on time
  • Record receivable entries at month end for outstanding invoices
  • Create and deliver invoices to broker and manager the corresponding GL account
  • Report on outstanding receivables and monitor invoices for potential losses
  • Research items by Corporate Accounting or the Mortgage Controller
  • Work with the accounting team to assist with reconciliations as necessary
  • Communicate effectively with auditors in coordination with the department as necessary
  • Create audit documentation to ensure compliance with all SOX controls relating to reconciliations or key processes
  • Create recurring journal entries throughout the month as needed and monitor respective processes
  • Create miscellaneous journal entries as directed by other Accounting Personnel
  • Communicate with external parties such as investors to reconcile outages on GL reconciliations if needed
  • Work with vendor representative to ensure respective processes run efficiently
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting and/or Related Field or additional years of directly related experience, above the minimum will be considered
  • Minimum of 2 years job related experience
  • Robust working knowledge of the Mortgage industry preferred
  • Strong understanding of accounting concepts
  • Ability to follow accounting guidelines, taking the initiative to ensure that knowledge relevant to this role stays current
  • Ability to operate a personal computer using Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Basic knowledge of Accounting
  • Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with customers as well as fellow employees
  • Knowledge of all necessary computer applications
