Work with CM Group management and others in the Accounting and Finance Department to prepare company financial statements and reports in any one or more of the following areas: tax, regulatory compliance.
**This is a hybrid position that requires two days per week in the office weekly **
Tax
- Prepare/analyze premium tax returns and make annual and installment payments.
- Prepare/analyze corporate income tax returns for select states.
- Prepare/analyze municipal tax filings on a quarterly/annual basis.
- Prepare federal 1099 filings.
Regulatory Compliance
- Prepare/analyze data request calls for insurance departments, statistical services, rating bureaus, residual market pools, etc.
- Pay/analyze surcharges and recoupments and reconcile the associated general ledger accounts.
- Prepare/analyze annual regulatory filings to the state insurance departments.
- Prepare schedules, as needed, for statutory annual statement.
Miscellaneous
- Document procedures, as necessary, for the accounting procedure manual.
- Assist/lead departmental projects.
- Perform departmental tasks with advanced level of difficulty.
- Assist with financial and tax audits.
- Mentor/lead staff accountant positions.
- Bachelor's degree in accounting is required.
- Ability to sit for CPA exam is required.
- Three years' statutory accounting experience preferred.
- Ability to prioritize work to meet deadlines.
- Analytical thinking skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively at all levels, both internal and external.
- Sound judgment and effective decisionmaking skills.
