Summary Description

Under general supervision of the manager for the specialty area, participates as a member of a multidisciplinary team to provide consultative nursing services within a clinical area of specialization. Serves as a patient advocate and provides emotional support and home care instructions for patient and family; provides ongoing staff and community education and supports the implementation of outreach/outpatient programs.



Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

1. Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN).
2. Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Michigan.
3. Specialty certification by professional organization, preferred.
4. A minimum of two years of clinical nursing experience, including one year in area of specialization.
Two to three years Pediatric nursing experience, including one year in area of specialization, if in a pediatric setting. Pediatric acute care experience preferred.

Skills Required

1. Good clinical judgment and analytical skills to provide comprehensive care, formulate and document care plans; to gather and interpret data, identify discrepancies, problems or issues; to obtain advice when precedents are unclear or unavailable and to determine methods for ensuring compliance with functional/organizational/service policies and procedures.
2. A high level of interpersonal, verbal & teamwork skills to effectively work as a team member in support of all services delivered and to effectively communicate with physicians, patients, their families and other hospital personnel to address customer needs.
3. Good reading, writing and comprehension skills to understand, effectively communicate and contribute to procedures, processes, orders, methods and standards.
4. Ability to change job-related work practices/priorities/procedures & reschedule activities in response to change work conditions.
5. Ability to work productively & effectively in a complex environment, handle multiple/changing priorities and deal with stresses associated with a patient care environment.
