JOB SUMMARY: JOIN OUR NEW ADULT HIGH SCHOOL!!!

The Special Education Instructor provides support to all students and teachers with Special Education needs. Responsible for identification of student for special education services. Develops all IEPs and 504s, progress monitoring and reporting, and serves as resource expertise to Teaching staff. Serves as Instructor and holds the primary responsibility for the implementation and development of The Excel Center curriculum and the success of its students.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Identify students for special education services and utilize proper channels for delivering services ;
  • Develop IEPs and 504s in compliance with State requirements;
  • Monitor student progress and implementation of IEPs and 504s ;
  • Maintain accurate and compliant student records in SIS ;
  • Communicate accommodations/modifications and student needs to teachers, coaches and staff;
  • Develop and provide professional development series related to Special Education to staff.
  • Coordinate and deliver required health screenings
  • Can have paraprofessionals help with extra tutoring, do push ins
  • Can teach remedial english/math; can teach two classes, IEP caseload,

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in subject specialty required.
  • Minimum of 2 years teaching experience required.
  • Minimum of 2 years Special Education teaching required.
  • Current MSDE Teaching Certification in subject specialty required, dual licensure preferred.
  • Experience working with high school curriculum preferred.
  • Experience working with adult students in urban, nontraditional, and/or in adult education setting highly preferred.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish highly preferred.

SCOPE OF SUPERVISION:

  • No supervision responsibilities

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • Current Maryland Teaching License required.
  • Must possess a current valid driver’s license and be fully insured according to Maryland law.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

X Light

Lifting up to 20 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying objects weighing up to 10 pounds. May be required to regularly stand for extended periods of time, walk, reach with hands/arms with full range of motion, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, push or pull. Regularly required to talk and hear. Frequently required to use hands and fingers to hold, handle and feel objects, knobs, keys and/or buttons.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

Travel is defined as travel to all areas within Goodwill’s territory (Cecil, Harford, Baltimore, Howard, and Anne Arundel Counties, Baltimore City and the entire Eastern Shore of Maryland). In some cases, long-distance travel, including overnights may be required but is typically planned in advance. In some cases, travel may be unplanned.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

General office environment where the employee is infrequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, wet and/or humid conditions, fumes, airborne particles or outside weather conditions. The noise level is usually quiet.
