The LPC/LCSW role is key to the success of the organization. Counseling can help to decrease stress and anxiety, increase emotion regulation, improve social navigation needs, reduce depression, assist with learning healthier ways of self-expression, work through grief and loss, improve skills needed to build and understand healthy relationships, learn new ways of coping with life’s challenges, boost self-esteem, improve life skills, navigate life transitions, and help enhance one’s quality of life. Often counseling includes collaborating with parents and/or caregivers to assist with improving family interactions and providing education on how to support their child during phases of life transitions.

They provide individual, family, or group therapy services to assist individuals in achieving more effective social functioning. Formulates and implements treatment/intervention plans. Responsible for record keeping, reports, and notes for service billing.

Essential Functions:

  • Provide Positive Behavior Support for HIPsters - 80%
  • Conducts initial patient assessments
  • Conducts psychosocial assessments
  • Develops treatment plans
  • Provides individual, group, and family therapy
  • May assist with difficult behavior and/or crisis situations within the program
  • Maintains up-to-date files on all clients
  • Writes and provides accurate and timely notes to the Therapy Billing Specialist for billing purposes

• May supervise practicum students as appropriate to level of training

• Consults with staff concerning HIPster needs as related to treatment/intervention plans

• Provides direct support and training on mental health issues to staff

• Develop therapeutic rapport with HIPsters and establish working relationship with all staff

• Work collaboratively with all staff to make decisions in the best interest of HIPsters

• Prioritize HIPster safety and dignity in all decisions

• Respond, as needed, to de-escalate behaviors in accordance with behavior plans and My Possibilities’ protocol

• Participate in incident footage reviews and family meetings, as needed

• Complete and submit detailed documentation as required

Training – 10%

  • Collaborate with instructional staff to create and implement lessons or environmental modifications which best support identified HIPster needs
  • Work with individual instructors, groups of instructors and/or the entire staff on issues such as: crisis intervention, de-escalation, preventing behavioral outbursts, redirection, and other factors that can affect development and implementation of interventions
  • Engage in on-going professional development to increase knowledge and skills to support all HIPsters

Organization and Keep Record Maintained – 10%

  • Organize and schedule time commitments to meet demands of the job
  • Maintains up-to-date files on all clients
  • Writes and provides accurate and timely notes to the Therapy Billing Specialist for billing purposes

Education:

  • Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in Counseling or Social Work
  • At least 2-years’ experience working as an LPC or LCSW
  • Experience working with adults with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, a plus
  • Knowledgeable of various intellectual and developmental diagnosis
  • Able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing (sign language a plus).
  • Extremely effective listener
  • Patient, understanding, and empathetic
  • Flexible attitude

Specialized Knowledge:

  • Licensed in the state of Texas as a Licensed Professional Counselor or Licensed Clinical Social Worker.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Supervise graduate students as appropriate.
