Truck Driver Helper -NE_Thrift Store Department-401

Job Summary:

Assists the Truck Driver in the loading and unloading of routine pickups and/or deliveries of material, donated or otherwise, to serve production needs of the store and/or general operation of unit; serves as backup driver when needed; manages bale process.

Essential Functions:

Donation Pick-Ups and Deliveries Responsibilities (80%)

Assists Truck Driver in lifting and stacking donations in the truck and unloading/loading.

Prepares donation receipts for customers; ensures the accuracy and completeness of the same.

Maintains good relationships with donors to promote a favorable image of The Salvation Army.

Places and arranges furniture, appliances, books or other heavy items in the store as directed.

Inspects donated items briefly to ensure they can be used according to established policies and procedures; explains policy to customers regarding the types of items that can be accepted.

Bale Process Responsibilities (20%)

Loads bales machine with clothing, builds bales, unloads bales from machine, catalogs bales and loads bales into transport trailer with forklift and material handling equipment.

Other Responsibilities:

Assists in cleaning and maintaining the warehouse and loading dock area; picks up trash and debris surrounding the grounds as requested.

Assists with placing items in the store as needed.

Assists customers in carrying purchased/ donated items in/out of the store.

Operates baler, bales/binds clothing and recyclables.

Operates forklift to load/unload/move goods.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Materials and Equipment:

Salvation Army Trucks, forklift, pallet jack, dollies

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with co-workers.

Ability to present a positive and professional image of The Salvation Army.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

Education and Experience:

High school or G.E.D. preferred but not required,

And

Prior experience driving a box truck preferred,

or

any equivalent combination of training and experience providing the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

Certifications:

Valid State Drivers License (required)

Physical Requirements:

Ability to meet attendance requirements.

Ability to read, write and communicate the English language effectively.

Ability to perform continuous walking, stooping, standing, and some climbing.

Duties require frequent periods of physical mobility including but not limited to standing, walking, climbing, bending, squatting, and lifting. Physical duties may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of sitting.

Extensive amount of physical effort required associated with lifting, moving, and carrying heavy objects (up to 100 lbs.) frequently.

Working Conditions:

Work requires riding in a vehicle daily with exposure to the outdoors where there are physical discomforts associated with changes in weather such as rain, cold, snow, heat or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
