Hydrogeologist (Early Career)
California
Montgomery & Associates (M&A) is seeking a full-time early-career hydrogeologist to join our California Team. The position is for analytical support including groundwater modeling projects and geographic information systems analysis and requires the ability to provide technical support to multiple tasks and/or projects simultaneously. The person in this position will interact with M&A team leaders, project staff, and project managers.
Our company of highly respected water resources professionals, headquartered in Tucson, Arizona, has been in business since 1984 and is growing, with recent expansions in the western U.S. and South America. In California, our team comprises 18 professional staff located in 4 offices: Oakland, Sacramento, Monterey, and San Luis Obispo, with a fifth office opening soon in Southern California (Pasadena).
This position will support projects and tasks throughout Northern California, primarily related to the implementation of the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act. The role offers an exciting opportunity to work with an enthusiastic team of water resource scientists and engineers.
The position is available at any of our 4 California offices, (Oakland, Sacramento, Monterey, or San Luis Obispo), with a preference given to Oakland or Sacramento where our main CA technical teams are located. Our team is currently working approximately 50% in the office and 50% remotely.
Work duties will include:
Technically contributing to tasks and projects that focus on quantitative hydrogeology and groundwater resources management, including:
  • Interpretation of lithologic, hydrologic testing, depth-specific water quality, and borehole geophysical data
  • Supporting pre-and post-processing of model inputs and results of predictive modeling runs and supporting model updates
  • Developing water budgets
  • Evaluating and filling hydrogeologic data gaps
  • Developing hydrogeologic conceptual models
  • Developing maps of well data and water level contours
  • Data evaluations and preparation of technical reports
  • Working with a range of task leads and project managers across our offices
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in hydrology, geology, or engineering; graduate degree preferred
  • Understanding of groundwater principles and clear understanding of how to apply hydrogeologic principles to characterize and assess groundwater systems
  • Positive and enthusiastic attitude, willingness to learn, and ability to work in teams
  • Working knowledge of geographic information systems (ArcGIS), Survey123, and SQL and Access databases
  • Ability to work towards and obtain Professional registration (P.G. or P.E.)
  • Experience working on data analysis to support groundwater model development helpful
  • Up to 4 years of experience in environmental and water resources consulting preferred
  • Strong organizational, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills, and ability to meet deadlines
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, GIS, and general computer skills
  • Demonstrated technical writing skills
  • Experience using standard analytical approaches and tools
  • Ability and willingness to perform work in the field on occasion
  • Current and valid California driver's license
  • Ability to legally work and reside in the United States

Monthly Base Pay Range: $5,200 - $6,600
Estimated Annualized Compensation Including Bonuses: $70,000 - $89,000
Compensation for qualified extra hours could further increase the estimate above.
