About the Role:

Join Planet as a Qualification Engineering Intern! From technology demonstrators to operational constellations, exceptional engineers are needed to design, manufacture, test and launch record-breaking numbers of spacecrafts. We leverage the latest technologies and develop our own, while rapidly iterating our spacecrafts designs. As an intern under the mentorship of experienced professionals, you will join a small team of dedicated engineers, playing a key role in the advent of several platforms. The ideal candidate is a hard worker, eager to learn while doing, with an appetite for challenging problems to solve. Versatile, curious and creative, they are highly motivated by working with hardware.

This role will require you to be physically present at our headquarters in San Francisco, CA, 5 days a week.

Impact You'll Own:

  • Support the environmental test campaigns of our latest sub-systems prototypes and flight hardware, by participating in campaigns organization and running tests.
  • Design, assemble and qualify test support equipment to support vibration, shock, and thermal vacuum testing.
  • Develop, set up and suggest improvements on our data acquisition systems
  • Document and present work to multi-disciplinary collaborators and leadership

What You Bring:

  • Engagement in a BSc or MSc program in mechanical, electrical, robotics or any other relevant field of engineering
  • A passion for space and mechanical systems
  • Hands-on experience in mechanics, robotics, domotics, rocketry, RC aircraft making, testing or any other practicum, club or hobby projects
  • Experience using Solidworks CAD & FEA (simulation) with an understanding of the importance of design for manufacturing
  • Interest in automation and prototyping, and experience using Arduinos and Raspberry Pis
  • Excellent communication skills and a willingness to engage in collaborative work across teams

What Makes You Stand Out:

  • Exposure to environmental testing, whether it is to vibration, shock, thermal or vacuum
  • Experience setting up and working with lab equipment such as power supplies, multimeters, oscilloscopes, etc.

EAR/ITAR Requirements:

This position requires access to export-controlled technology, and as such, and in accordance to applicable law, employment is only open to US citizens, US nationals, lawful permanent residents of the US or persons admitted to the US as an asylee or refugee.

Compensation:

The US hourly rate range for this position at the commencement of employment is $35 - $60. The final salary range is determined by job related experience, skills and location. The range displays our typical hiring range for new hire salaries in US locations only.
