Position Summary

We maintain high expectations for our bartenders. Traditionally, they are the most knowledgeable and seasoned employees in the Front of House. Blue Plate also knows that many bartenders have an ego, an attitude, a je ne sais quoi. The best ones usually do. We want you to want to be the best. Take that edge and turn it into a great experience for the guest.

Bartender Performance Standards

Salesmanship - Creating the Bar

? Be genuine. No script. Show your personality.

? Your guests should know your name - because you introduced yourself and not because they read it on the check.

? You should ask the names of your guests - build a rapport.

? Create a new regular every day!

? Having complete awareness of the atmosphere - Music, Attitude, Lights and Temperature - are your guests comfortable? Is it too bright? Too dim? Is it super humid outside and the inside temp is 80 degrees? Are your guests wearing their coats? Be aware and adjust accordingly.

? What's going on? In the neighborhood, current events, sports, local events, company events

? Sell to your guest. Guide them through their experience. Give them options.

Bar Basics/Standards

? Work like this: eyes up, make drinks to recipe, multi-task, be efficient, clean as you go, handle cash properly, pour all drinks accurately- beer, wine and spirits. Just to name a few.

Knowledge

? You need to be the expert on: classic cocktails, your products - spirits, beers, wine, techniques, temperatures, ice. Why? Because you will be asked. By your guests, by the servers, and, by your friends.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

? Prepare alcohol and non-alcohol beverages.

? Interact with customers, take orders and serve snacks and drinks.

? Assess customers' needs and preferences and make recommendations.

? Mix ingredients to prepare cocktails.

? Plan and present bar menu.

? Check customers' identification and confirm that it meets legal drinking age.

? Restock and replenish bar inventory and supplies.

? Stay guest focused and nurture an excellent guest experience.

? Provide work direction and supervision for the Barback position, (if applicable).

? Participate in and satisfactorily complete all required training for the applicable position.

? Maintain positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that fosters and maintains positive relationships with coworkers and supervisors. This would include but not be limited to such actions: resolution of conflicts in a positive manner; courteous treatment of staff, customers, vendors and visitors; respect of others' property and person, professional and appropriate communication to and about co-workers, supervisors and subordinates. Support the Mission of the Blue Plate Restaurant Company by being appropriately engaged in the business and by treating every customer, visitor/vendor and colleague with respect and dignity, and without discrimination of any kind.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position does provide supervision and work direction for the Barback position.

Requirements

Qualifications

The position requires a high school diploma and/or GED equivalent. Prefer one to three years of bartending experience. The position also requires the following: exceptional interpersonal communications skills; strong organization skills; a high level of ability to multi-task; passion for the business; ability to develop and maintain strong and regular customer relationships; ability to provide work direction and an appropriate level of supervision for the Barback position, (if applicable); must have reliable transportation; knowledge of a second language would be a plus; and, the ability to pass all required pre-employment background checks.

? Physical Strength - Prolonged standing, walking, bending, climbing, lifting, twisting and moving. Able to lift up to 75 pounds occasionally. Lifting over shoulders regularly.
