I. SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to

  • Plan and facilitate quality and educational instruction that fosters group work
  • Participate with children in activities such as sports, art, dance and homework assistance
  • Help participant grow and develop as individuals and bond as a group
  • Guide children’s development and help them relate to each other and to adults
  • Contribute to the planning and execution of special events and other community building activities
  • Collaborate with a team of professional artists, social workers and youth workers to create an original production that engages 100+ participants in arts and literacy skill development
  • Attend weekly professional development meetings

II. QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education/Degree minimum requirement: High School Diploma or Equivalency Diploma
  • Years of Experience: currently in College or 2 years of experience working with children
  • Age: 18 years-old or older, preferred
  • Strong Youth Development background
  • Must love children, working in groups and being part of a community
  • Flexibility and the ability to work well as a member of a team
  • Interested in managing and creating positive experiences for groups of youth, including participants with special needs and challenging behaviors
  • Desire to share and build personal and interpersonal skills with participants
  • Ability to set limits and maintain helping role of practitioner and to intervene appropriately

III. RELATIONSHIP WITH OTHERS

  • Build and maintain close, daily interactions with participants, co-workers, and supervisors
  • Have a strong sensitivity to cultural differences present among staff and clients within our organization.
  • Possess a strong belief in people’s ability to grow and change
  • Forge a mutually respectful partnership with persons served and their families

IV. WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Actively engage and interact with children each day
  • May be required to be active by walking, bending, standing, squatting or sitting on the floor with children
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain a high energy level
  • May be exposed to all weather conditions and might be required to work in various temperatures in order to facilitate activities in various locations inside and outside of the school building

V. SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY

The Group Leader role focuses on supervising a group of participants in the program, in collaboration with other professionals including Activity Specialists and Youth Workers.
