JOB TITLE: Cat Cafe Barista

DEPARTMENT: Operations

REPORTS TO: Shelter Manager

SUPERVISES: N/A

CLASSIFICATION: Non-exempt, Full-Time, Hourly

EFFECTIVE DATE: 10/31/22

SUMMARY: The role of the Cat Café Barista is to create a warm and inviting environment for cat cafe customers. In this position, you will craft high-quality espresso drinks for our Cat Cafe visitors and will have the opportunity to connect with our Cafe guests while creating a memorable experience for them.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepare coffee, tea, and other drinks to customers’ specifications.
  • Complete sales transactions on the point-of-sale system.
  • Create a warm and inviting café atmosphere for customers to engage with shelter cats and enjoy their beverages.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of our cat colony in-between appointments.
  • Flexibility in accommodating guests in various situations.
  • Clean and sanitize café equipment to manufacturer’s specifications.
  • Stock and inventory café products and supplies, keeping stock sheet up to date weekly.
  • Maintain a safe and healthy work environment by following organization standards and sanitation regulations.
  • Work with volunteers to promote the cat cafe experience and provide information and guidance as customers enter the lounge.
  • Organization of retail area, stocking, facing merchandise, and general cleaning.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by management.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Prior experience in restaurants or coffee shops preferred
  • Interest in and knowledge of coffee and beverage serving and sales.
  • Obtaining the City of Chicago Food Sanitation Certificate within 60 days of hire.
  • Knowledge of basic mathematics and measurements.
