Do you want to make a difference? Are you passionate about helping others? Optimae Behavioral Health Services, a division of Optimae LifeServices, is looking for a Registered Nurse-Clinical Supervisor in our southeastern Iowa region.

The Clinical Supervisor works under the supervision of the Regional Behavioral Health Director and provides clinical supervision to therapists and paraprofessionals working in outpatient clinics, care facilities, school-based programs and recovery centers. This position establishes and maintains a high level of quality and efficiency in the delivery of professional and paraprofessional services to the people we serve.

Education & work experience:

  • Must have an advanced degree in one of the fields of psychology, counseling and guidance, mental health, psychiatric nursing, social work, or an M.D. or D.O. eligible for certification by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
  • A minimum of two years post-Master’s degree experience providing services in a mental health field is required.

Knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Knowledge of the principles of human growth and behavior, complex physiological and psychological problems, and related treatment practice and therapies.
  • Knowledge of the principles, practices, procedures, staff requirements, and operating conditions related to the administration of a clinical outpatient program.
  • Knowledge of laws applicable to treatment and therapy.
  • Ability to plan, coordinate and direct the professional functions of a large outpatient system.
  • Ability to supervise employees who perform professional treatment and therapy.
  • Ability to maintain professional and administrative standards as set by administration.
  • Ability to exercise judgment and discretion in applying and interpreting Optimae LifeServices policies and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate well with staff, people we serve, funders, the public, and other provider agencies.
  • Ability to work closely with people with a mental illness.
  • Ability to work in a stressful environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of and experience in giving clinical supervision to professional staff.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Understand, believe in, and demonstrate behavior driven by Optimae LifeServices’ Mission, Vision and Core Values.
  • Understand standards of professional conduct. Model and support ethical decision-making and uphold ethical standards.
  • Effectively perform personnel actions related to selection of staff, and supervision of staff’s performance, development and efficiency, and oversee disciplinary actions, terminations, work schedules, and assignments of same staff.
  • Monitor weekly productivity metrics and coach and support professionals on meeting targeted goals.
  • Participate in and coordinate staff development training incorporating evidence-based practice in alignment with Optimae’s Core Values.
  • Work in coordination with relevant administrators to provide clinical oversight to treatment programs.
  • Oversight of clinical assessments including PSE’s, diagnosis, crisis plans, treatment plans and progress notes through consultations and trainings. Review audit results and coach professionals on areas of needed improvement.
  • Carry a caseload of therapy clients proportionate to the clinical supervision responsibilities.
  • Oversee the referral process and review the waiting lists weekly.
  • Oversee the at-risk list and critical incident process. Provide supervision and consultation to clinicians related to at-risk clients.
  • Oversee participation in collaborative team meetings.
  • Model and support reflection/critical thinking, foster professional resilience and cultivate a healthy and supportive environment for Behavioral Health. Provide cross-cultural supervision.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Ability to climb stairs while carrying objects

  • Normal range of hearing with corrections
  • Frequently perform daily duties which involve standing, bending, pivoting, squatting, kneeling and crouching.
