POSITION SUMMARY

 

The Tool Maker is responsible for the tooling and fabrication of custom tooling for our customers. This position requires a hands-on approach to all aspects of the tooling process. The Tool Maker will be responsible for ensuring that all customer specifications are met and that the tools are made to the highest quality standards.

The Tool Maker prepares and manufactures Jigs, Fixtures and Tooling, working in cooperation with in-house Research and Development to support critical projects. Under limited supervision the Tool Maker will design, fabricate, repair, and improve tools, jigs, fixtures, simple molds, gauges and dies to the tolerances required for the intended manufacturing processes. Working from CAD drawings, sketches, models or instructions. Planning of work to be accomplished by using the most economical methods and proper machines. Responsible to assign machining of specific parts to Machinists and provide drawings and/or sketches for their own or other’s use in producing subassembly components. May be asked assist management in scheduling work and/or provide direction to other staff members, serving as a group leader on projects when required.

 

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Power Point, Outlook and Excel Software.
  • Knowledge and proficiency using CAD/CAM system software. (i.e., Mastercam, solid works, etc.)
  • Vertical, horizontal, pallet change CNC Mill programming, set-up and operation.
  • Lathe programming, set-up and operation.
  • Experience using measurement and hand tools required in CNC machining.
  • Inspection experience using optical comparator and CMM.
  • Remain flexible, resilient, calm, and maintain a sense of humor.
  • Regularly present a positive and optimistic team focused attitude.
  • Consistent and timely attendance.
  • Meet the physical and mental requirements of the essential job functions.
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing techniques.
  • Willingness to become a licensed forklift operator.

 

SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Capable of working independently or as part of a team, with a minimum amount of direction and supervision.
  • Listening to others when they communicate, asking questions to understand them better.
  • Desire to absorb, share, and understand information presented.
  • Communication whether written, verbal, etc. in a way that others grasp.
  • Respecting others’ points of view through engagement and interest.
  • Effectively design and build machine and weld fixtures for production use.
  • Familiarity with appropriate metals and materials used in fixture construction.
  • Using relevant knowledge, know-how, and skills to explain and clarify thoughts and ideas.
  • Highly effective at planning, organizing, prioritizing, and accurately following through on work activities within constraints and/or interruptions in meeting deadlines.

 

EDUCATION:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Trade school or apprenticeship program preferred.

 

EXPERIENCE:

  • Five years of factory-related, tool and fixture maker experience, including three years CNC.
  • Combination of work experience with consideration to education.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Standing
  • Walking
  • Twisting at the waist
  • Lifting and lowering weights up to 50 pounds.
  • Steel toed shoes are required on the production floor.
