Job Summary:
Health Information Management (HIM) Coordinator is responsible for managing and securing patient records. Position will continuously be analyzing, and protecting digital and traditional medical information vital to providing quality patient care. The HIM Coordinator will work with computers and software to comply with federal mandates for electronic storage of patient information. Responsible to monitor the release of information, record processing, physician's documentation, scanning, coding/abstracting and transcription services. The HIM Coordinator provides supervision of the HIM Department staff in the absence of the HIM Director.
Position Qualifications:
- Associate’s degree- required
- AHIMA Credential- required (RHIT or RHIA)
- Minimum two to three years of supervisor and/or managerial level experience in HIM and/or Medical Office Setting- required
Key Responsibilities / Job Accountabilities:
- Manages the Release of Information process for the Inpatient medical records
- Responsible for abstracting patient records for HBIPS
- Responsible for running daily discharge report
- Retrieves daily discharges from units and reconciles as needed
- Conducts the H/P and IPE daily reviews as required
- Assists with the Training and Orientations of all new HIM staff members
- Maintains statistical log for the various HIM Audits conducted
- Provides statistical data for monthly Quality Reports
- Responsible for abstracting patient records for HBIPS
- Prepares and oversees the quarterly discharge chart packing for off site storage
- Coordinates the dictation/transcription access for new practitioners and hospital staff
- Assists with orienting new practitioners to the dictation/transcription system
- In-depth knowledge and understanding of the HIM department according to facility guidelines and Medical Staff Rules and Regulations
- Responsible for covering all HIM Staff positions
- Assembles and analyzes discharged charts when necessary
- Fosters professional rapport with medical and leadership staff
- Maintains and ensures HIM Compliance with clinical documentation requirements
- In absence of HIM Director, oversees and supervises the HIM STAFF
