SQL Server DBA & BI Specialist

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The SQL Server DBA and Business Intelligence Specialist is an integral member of the IT organization responsible for maintaining the database and reporting systems, as well as creating data driven reporting and ETL procedures.  The ideal candidate is a self-starter with excellent communication skills who is highly proficient in writing complex T-SQL statements and is comfortable working with data from multiple aspects.

JOB DUTIES:

• SQL Server Database Administration:
• Administer new and existing SQL Servers ranging from SQL Server 2012 through 2022
• Manage SQL Server 2022 Always-On HA environment
• Manage SQL Server databases, including configuration, maintenance, and performance optimization
• Create and modify stored procedures and functions
• Monitor system health, ensuring high levels of availability, sustainability, and security
• Analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve issues in real time
• Provide recommendations and implement solutions and improvements
• Refine and automate regular processes, track issues, and document changes
• Assist developers with query tuning and schema refinement
• Perform scheduled maintenance and support release deployment activities after hours
• Create and maintain new and existing PowerShell scripts used for both system management and data movement
• Create and maintain new and existing ETL packages with SSIS and PowerShell
• Manage security across the SQL Server environments
• Perform refreshes of DEV/Test environments from production copies
• Troubleshoot database performance issues and other duties as assigned.

Business Intelligence (BI) Integration:

• Maintain and patch existing internal SSRS and Power BI Report Servers
• Maintain and patch existing SSAS servers
• Create and modify data models in SSAS
• Maintain data model security in SSAS
• Collaborate with end users and project teams to refine reporting requirements to create and maintain new and existing SSRS reports and Power BI reports and dashboards
• Write complex T-SQL queries to present data to key business leaders
• Dissect complex SQL databases to arrive at a clear understanding of the data
• Investigate data inconsistencies in ERP databases
• Design and implement database-related applications and processes for the BI platform
• Ensure seamless integration between SQL Server databases and BI tools
• Optimize data models, ETL processes, and reporting workflows
• Support data visualization, dashboards, and analytics initiatives

EXPERIENCE AND SQL QUALIFICATIONS: 

• Expert in SQL Server 2012 through 2022
• Expert in commands of SQL, SQL server tools and T-SQL skills
• Expert in Stored Procedures, including creation, debugging and modifications
• Proficient in SQL Server Audits, Extended Events and Change Data Capture (CDC)
• Experienced in performance tuning and optimization (PTO)
• Advanced knowledge of database security, backup and recovery, and performance monitoring standards
• Strong ETL skills including SSIS and PowerShell
• Experience managing SQL Server Always-On HA environments
• Experience with backups, restores, and recovery models
• Experience with Microsoft Power BI and Power BI Report Server (RS)
• Extensive Experience with SSAS and SSRS
• Familiarity with High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) options for SQL Server
• Strong knowledge of On-Premises and Cloud Server Infrastructures
• ERP Experience:
• ERP Design and Deployment history
• Experience with .net, C# and JavaScript
• Experience with Jira/Confluence
• Experience with GIT repositories
• Experience with Microsoft Navision 2015 and/or Oracle NetSuite is a plus

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field, or relevant work experience 
• 5+ years of experience as a SQL Server DBA or in a similar role
