Position: Research Analyst
Type: Full time, hybrid at least 3 days per week in-person

Location: New Orleans Office, Baton Rouge Office, or Harvey Office

Reporting: The Research Analyst will report to the Legislative Coordinator
Hours: 40 hours per week

Research Analyst 

Step Up Louisiana is seeking a Research Analyst to conduct research in support of strategic campaigns, and works with Step Up Louisiana’s field, research, communications, and legal staff and allies to execute campaign tactics. Step Up Louisiana is a dynamic and fast-paced community organizing group dedicated to winning education and economic justice for all. Step Up Louisiana’s economic justice campaigns group is a growing and diverse multi-disciplinary team that develops and executes comprehensive corporate reform campaigns in partnership with workers and customers.

 Research Analyst Responsibilities: 

  • Examine market and industry trends, analyze the growth and development plans of key market players and track relevant policy and legislative developments.
  • Conduct original research, both qualitative and quantitative in nature, using a wide variety of research resources and methods.
  • Collaborate with coalition partners to design, conduct and/or interpret qualitative and quantitative research including literature reviews, surveys, and data analysis
  • Collect and maintain data and materials needed to support research conclusions with precision and accuracy.
  • Develop and draft written reports, white papers and other materials on our issue areas that are accessible to key audiences such as community leaders, policy makers, regulators, funders, the media, and the broader public.
  • Partner with communications staff to regularly disseminate research findings and policy positions to our allies, the media, and the general public.
  • Aggregate existing research and coordinate with other coalition partners to draft reports in support of campaign goals.
  • Participate in campaign field activities with Step Up Louisiana, workers and coalition partners.
  • Team up with Step Up campaign staff and coalition partners to facilitate in-person and webinar discussions on related policy topics with state/local government agencies and community-based organizations.
  • Supporting practices that lead toward a caring, collaborative, and effective staff team. 
  • Supporting fundraising and reporting to ensure the organization’s financial sustainability.
  • Support the worker and member organizing teams as necessary with notetaking, rides for workers, spokesperson prep, printing, logistics, and operations
  • Support execution of campaign activities

 Job Qualifications

  • BA degree or higher
  • Strong quantitative and analytic research skills
  • A commitment to social, economic, climate, and racial justice and the labor movement
  • Excellent computer skills including typing, database, ability to adapt and learn new technologies quickly
  • Excellent writing ability
  • Excellent people skills
  • Experience conducting financial, policy and corporate research a plus
  • Demonstrated ability to work well independently and in a team
  • Experience with union, political, civil rights or community organizing a plus
  • Valid driver’s license and some travel required
  • Willingness to work long and irregular hours, including work on weekends as necessary, as the demand and needs of the organization and particular campaigns dictate.
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Spanish and/or other non-English language skills a plus
  • Team leadership and experience working with coalitions a plus
