Title: Professional Counseling - INTERN

 

Description:

 

Under the Supervision of an Independently Licensed Practitioner of the Healing Arts. Mental Health Clinical Student Intern provides clinical therapeutic services to individuals with identified mental health, emotional health or substance abuse conditions while gaining hours of medical and operational education in the mental health environment. The Intern is responsible for engaging clients and their families/significant others through the Mental Health and the Substance Dependency treatment process in collaboration with her Clinical Supervisor and team of other healthcare/medical professionals. The Intern completes the Initial Bio-Psychosocial Comprehensive Assessment, conducts Intensive Outpatient Group/Individual Therapy Sessions, and participates in treatment planning to ensure that the needs of clients and families are met throughout the continuity of care. The Intern must demonstrate an advanced understanding of the full continuum of care. In addition, this person must have a broad understanding of how an outpatient mental health program operates and how each client progresses in the care system.


Essential Functions:


Provides therapeutic care and quality treatment of clients.

Facilities individual and group counseling sessions

Works with other social agencies and managed care organizations, hospitals, clinics, courts, prisons, and gatekeepers to meet client needs and to assist them in utilizing provided resources as required.

Prepares treatment plans, high quality medical record documentation, generates reports and keeps records.

Encourages, reassures, and provides clinical support to clients.

Encourages, reassures, and provides administrative support to the organization.

Provides timely, high-quality assessments and evaluations based on regulatory criteria.

Reviews, and where necessary, revises patient treatment plans.

Contacts, consults, and coordinates with referral sources as appropriate

Participates with a multidisciplinary team for assigned patients.

Documents all counseling and education services, assessments, reassessments, referrals and follow-up in the patient's clinical record.

Provides appropriate, timely signatures and dating of such entries, including those made in electronic records.


Qualifications:


Knowledge of the basic principles, philosophies, practices, and procedures involved at Mental Health Organizations

Knowledge of the Bio-Psychosocial characteristics and manifestations of clients with mental health challenges

Knowledge of individual and group behavior and the effective ways of working with people to encourage on-going recovery.

Ability to work effectively with people and aid them in identifying their specific needs.

Must be able to develop a therapeutic relationship with patients while maintaining therapeutic boundaries.

 

Requirements:

 

  • Must be enrolled in a master’s degree program in the field of Mental Health, Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or a Human Service-related field, with an accredited college/university.
  • Enrolled in an Accredited Mental Health Professional Program at the master's degree level and in pursuit of either of the following licensures (i.e. LMHC-A, LMFT-A, or LPC-A)
  • Able to pass a Level II background check.
  • Valid driver's license with clean driving record and state minimum required vehicle insurance coverage.
  • Being bilingual is not required but is a preferred skill for this position.
