We are based in Rapid City, South Dakota, and are currently seeking a driven and talented professional to join our Energy group as a Project Engineer/ Project Manager.

Job Description

The Project Manager role entails overseeing geomechanical evaluations of subsurface projects, necessitating a foundational grasp of engineering principles and business acumen. While detailed expertise in geomechanical evaluations is not mandatory, candidates must possess a working knowledge of geomechanical (or solid mechanics) principles and articulate them effectively to clients.  In addition to project management, this role encompasses engaging in business development initiatives to liaise with clients and partners, facilitating the acquisition of new projects and fostering avenues for business growth.  Projects will vary in scale, duration, and complexity, demanding adaptability and a client-centric approach.

Responsibilities:  The ideal candidate will lead and support geomechanical projects from inception to completion, managing multiple projects concurrently. Responsibilities include proposal development, budget and schedule oversight, mentorship of junior staff, fostering client relationships, business growth, and seamless integration within a diverse subsurface engineering team. Domestic travel may be required for visits to project sites as well as for client and corporate meetings.

Required Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in mechanical, civil, geological/geotechnical, petroleum, mining, or related engineering from an accredited ABET institution
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in the following areas:
    • Geomechanical engineering and/or solid mechanics principles
    • Project management, staff supervision, and budgetary control
    • Fundamental understanding of engineering principles and business practices
  • Professional licensure or the ability to achieve professional licensure
  • Strong client relations skills with a focus on supporting business development initiatives
  • Exceptional interpersonal and technical communication skills (written and verbal) in English

Compensation: Salary depends on experience and expertise.
