As the Cybersecurity Communications Specialist, you will develop and implement communications plans and campaigns for cybersecurity projects and initiatives. These initiatives are managed by the Cyber Directorate through an omnichannel communications strategy. This role includes assistance with communications strategy, message development, writing, editing, and publishing content. You will work on email communications, web content, prepare leadership for speaking engagements and media events, and coordinate outreach to external organizations. In this new role, you will get to support a whole-of-state approach to cybersecurity, helping to protect the data and information of Oak Ridge National Laboratory.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Passion for communicating important and relevant information necessary for improving the risk posture of an organization.
  2. An associate degree in journalism, English or Cybersecurity-related field ~OR~ at least two (2) years of successful professional experience in this line of work.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Proven ability to plan and implement multi-faceted, complex communications and marketing strategies suitable for wide audiences.
  2. Previous experience working with subject matter experts, senior leaders, or executives to develop presentations, talking points, or remarks for external and internal audiences.
  3. Skills in writing, editing, organization, and independent working sufficient to share technical, complex information or issues with broad and varied audiences.
  4. Experience applying plain language principles and AP style to communications materials sufficient to ensure clear and concise messaging.
  5. Ability to measure and evaluate communication efforts sufficient to identify areas for improvement and develop recommendations.
  6. Ability to meet strict deadlines and balance multiple demands simultaneously.
  7. Work well under time pressure and in stressful situations and a rapidly changing environment.
  8. Ability to work in a team environment and, when needed, to direct the work of vendors, consultants, contractors, or other staff to ensure communication efforts are completed as planned.
  9. The ability to communicate effectively both in person and in writing.
  10. Ability to work with diverse groups of people both inside and outside the Laboratory.
