DESCRIPTION OF WORK

A Corrections Officer 3 supervises subordinate officers and ensures that all assigned duties are within compliance of policies, procedures, and regulations governing all aspects of care, custody, and control of inmates at SCI Fayette. You plan, organize, assign, and monitor officer duties; conduct inspections of all areas in your assigned zone to ensure all officers are alert and diligent in the performance of their duties; and complete related Commissioned Officers Daily Inspection Reports. You also monitor officers' assignments so that maximum effectiveness can be achieved with a minimum of personnel. In addition, you conduct semi-annual and annual employee performance evaluations, conduct interviews for prospective subordinate staff, provide training to new subordinate staff, and ensure that trainees are utilized at their appropriate level of training phase.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 40-hour work week
  • Work hours are to be determined. Schedule will include rotating days off.
  • This position is eligible for retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable. Applicants who are new to the Commonwealth will start employment at $52,306 annually (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year as a Corrections Officer 2 (Commonwealth job title); or
  • Four years of experience in corrections security work in a Pennsylvania state or county corrections facility. (Note: Persons seeking employment under this option will be required to successfully complete, or have completed, a training program conducted by the Department of Corrections.)

Special Requirement:
  • This position requires possession of an active Pennsylvania non-commercial Class C driver's license or equivalent that is not currently under suspension.

Other Requirements:
  • PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
