THE ROLE: Field CIO, Public Sector

Job Summary:

As the Field CIO, Public Sector, you will play a pivotal role in driving growth in state government sales and shaping our strategic approach to the public sector market. You will leverage your expertise within a variety of enterprise technology solutions/services and your deep understanding of state government needs to develop and execute sales strategies that maximize revenue and market penetration.

Travel Requirements:

In this role you will be expected to travel to locations occassionaly throughout the East Coast. Will involve a mixture of client facing meetings, conferences and corporate meetings.

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Sales and Business Development:
    • Lead sales efforts within the SLED market segment, identifying new business opportunities and driving revenue growth.
    • Build and nurture relationships with key decision-makers and influencers across various public sector agencies and institutions.
    • Develop and execute sales strategies to penetrate target markets, exceed revenue targets, and expand our market presence.
    • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders within state government agencies, including CIOs, IT directors, contract and procurement officials.
    • Pipeline Management: Assist with sales pipeline for the Eastern region states, ensuring consistent and accurate forecasting of large revenue opportunities.
  2. Client Engagement and Relationship Management:
    • Serve as a trusted advisor to clients, understanding their challenges, objectives, and constraints to deliver tailored technology solutions.
    • Conduct regular meetings and presentations with clients to discuss project progress, solicit feedback, and identify additional opportunities for collaboration.
    • Work with customers, partners and prospects to ensure a high level of quality and satisfaction.
  3. Cross-Functional Collaboration:
    • Work closely with internal teams, including solution architects, engineers, and project managers, to ensure seamless delivery of solutions and services to clients.
    • Collaborate with marketing and product teams to develop compelling messaging, collateral, and go-to-market strategies tailored to the SLED segment.
  4. Technology and Thought Leadership:
    • Provide strategic guidance and oversight on technology initiatives, ensuring alignment with clients' objectives and industry best practices.
    • Stay abreast of emerging technologies and trends relevant to the public sector, advising clients on opportunities for innovation and optimization.
    • Collaborate with internal teams to develop and customize solutions that meet the unique requirements of SLED organizations.

This role should possess a diverse set of skills spanning both technical expertise and strategic leadership. Here are some key skills:

  • Business Development and Sales Acumen: Expertise in selling and negotiating sales within Public Sector.
  • Government Acumen: Understanding of the complexities of the public sector, including regulatory frameworks, budgeting processes, and procurement procedures specific to state government agencies.
  • Strategic Thinking: Ability to develop and execute long-term strategic plans that align with organizational goals and address the evolving needs of state government clients.
  • Technology Expertise: Deep understanding of emerging technologies and their potential applications in addressing the challenges faced by state government agencies. This includes knowledge of cloud computing, cybersecurity, data analytics, and digital transformation strategies.
  • Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders. This includes presenting proposals, delivering presentations, and engaging in negotiations.
  • Problem-Solving: Analytical mindset with the ability to identify issues, evaluate alternatives, and implement effective solutions to overcome challenges encountered in the public sector environment.
  • Adaptability: Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities, regulations, and market conditions in the dynamic landscape of state government business.
  • Relationship Management: Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including government officials, industry partners, and internal teams.
  • Ethical Conduct: Commitment to upholding the highest standards of ethics and integrity in all business dealings, particularly in the public sector where transparency and accountability are paramount.
  • By possessing these skills, a Public Sector CIO can effectively navigate the complexities of state government business and drive sustainable growth and innovation in partnership with government agencies.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Business Administration, Information Technology, or related field/ Military equivalent.
  • 15+ years of industry experience
  • Experience holding a position in State Government as thought leader, executive or key member of a State IT leadership team.
  • Experience in sales or business development within the technology sector, with a focus on state government clients.
  • Deep understanding of state government procurement processes, regulations, and budget cycles.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Strong leadership abilities with a collaborative and results-oriented approach to problem-solving.
  • Willingness to travel within the Eastern region as needed.
