Job purpose
Under the direction of the Chef, the prep cook assists with preparation of foods as assigned in accordance with established policy and procedures on an assigned shift.
Duties and responsibilities
- Exhibit conduct in accordance with all Illinois Gaming Board (IGB) Rules and Regulations, Federal and State laws and regulations, and Company and departmental policies and procedures.
- Consistently deliver positive, courteous, and professional guest service in all interactions with guests, visitors, vendors, and fellow employees.
- Prepare an extensive variety of cold and hot food items utilizing standardized recipes and portions foods as specified.
- Cook in high volume.
- Demonstrate proper care, storage, use and cleaning of all tools and equipment.
- Demonstrate competent product knowledge by correct storing and handling of all perishables, maintaining quality, security, value, and integrity.
- Act as expediter by coordinating functions between the food prep line and service personnel.
- Recognize and corrects any product discrepancies and variations in quality, standards, and specifications.
- Assist with set-up of kitchen before shift and tear down at end of shift
- Maintain personal health and sanitation standards (wash hands when using restroom, etc.)
- Maintain a clean, safe, hazard-free work environment within area of responsibility.
- Demonstrate a commitment to ensuring responsible gaming and responsible alcohol service by discreetly notifying appropriate management of concerns and observations.
- Ensure prompt and discrete notification to senior management and/or the Ethics Hotline of any observation of illegal acts and/or internal ethics violations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Ability to obtain a gaming license.
- Minimum of one (1) year experience as a prep cook, line cook, or specialty cook in a high-volume environment.
- Demonstrated successful performance in a cook role.
- Culinary training in an accredited culinary degree program strongly preferred.
- Ability to exercise good judgment and confidentiality.
- Ability to use knives, other hand-held instruments, and other food preparation equipment.
- Ability to work flexible schedules, including nights, weekends and holidays is required.
- Ability to deliver a service level which creates an atmosphere that makes our guests want to return, giving each guest a positive, memorable experience.
- Commitment to routinely go above and beyond in the accomplishment of position responsibilities in an effort to play a role in the achievement of organizational goals.
- Must present an image of excitement and enthusiasm, while being able to project a professional appearance and demeanor.
