GWA is an independent, Pre-K-12, independent, college-preparatory school located on 61 beautiful acres in Monroe, Georgia, less than one hour from the state capitol of Atlanta.
George Walton Academy seeks an engaging, energetic 2nd Grade Teaching Assistant for the 2023-2024 school year. Reporting to the Lower School Division Head, the teacher will work closely with the 2nd Grade Lead Teacher to create engaging experiences for students.
Responsibilities:
- Work collaboratively with the second grade teachers to create a safe, nurturing and stimulating environment for all children in the classroom.
- Provide individual and small group instructional support to students.
- Assist in preparing and maintaining the classroom environment, including setting up and cleaning up materials and supplies.
- Help supervise children during lunch, recess, and other daily routines.
- Assist in maintaining accurate records of children's progress and development, including anecdotal notes, work samples, and assessments.
- Attend and participate in staff meetings, parent-teacher conferences, and other school-related events.
- Adhere to all school policies and procedures, including those related to health and safety.
- Participate in training sessions or workshops to enhance teaching skills and stay up to date on best practices in education.
- Step in as the lead teacher if the lead teacher is absent.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the lead teachers or school administration.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in early childhood or elementary education preferred.
- 3+ years experience working with children in an elementary school setting.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to work collaboratively with others and build positive relationships with children, families, and colleagues.
