Position Summary

Manage the preparation, maintenance and control of general accounting functions and systems and documents. Responsible for general ledger, financial statements, payables, receivables, inventories, payroll and division cost accounting. Provide analytical and problem solving support with emphasis on product costing/margin, capital investment, annual planning and rolling quarterly planning, and evaluation of sales and manufacturing performance. Works closely with the General Manager as a “Business Partner” in a collaborative manner to manage full plant P&L activities, including reporting and financial analysis and planning.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities

  • Works closely with Production Control Manager to provide POC updates and analysis; including all related processes to ensure accurate forecast and timely reporting
  • Provides financial mentoring/training and advisement to plant departmental managers
  • Develops and maintains daily, weekly, and monthly financial metrics that are meaningful to operations
  • Develops and updates financial models for analyzing financial risk such as work mix, head count, cost control, capacity ramp-up, and market conditions
  • Works jointly with operations to provide financial impact analysis and ongoing monitoring of efficiency and continuous improvement
  • Develops with GM all needed financial presentations to support BRM, Board reports, budgets, plant strategy, etc.
  • Responsible for all periodic accounting functions and analysis of operational data with emphasis on both financial and cost accounting, payroll accounting, and operational reporting
  • Manages general ledger, cost accounting, material usage accounting, plant performance metrics, payroll accounting, payables and receivables management
  • Responsible for accurate and timely preparation of financial statements and management reporting
  • Maintains balance sheets
  • Assures reporting and compliance with generally accepted accounting procedures (GAAP), corporate policy and governmental regulations and makes appropriate recommendations for changes to financial policy and procedures
  • Reviews and evaluates internal controls and systems for the various accounting application, recommending changes to procedures, work distribution, and system design
  • Prepares financial analysis on capital expenditures requests
  • Assures monthly reconciliation of General Ledger accounts and monthly preparation of reports
  • Ensures the timely and accurate filing of state, county, and city tax returns and payments

Work Relationships and Scope

  • Reports directly to the General Manager (solid line) and is a member of the Plant Leadership Team
  • Reports (dotted line) to the CFO and provides necessary Corporate level support needed for all financial compliance and key financial reporting needs
  • Works closely with corporate managers in sales, estimating and project management

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • At least 7 years of progressively responsible experience in accounting with financial statement preparation, cost accounting, and analysis experience
  • Excellent personal computer skills (spreadsheet and database) along with exposure to LAN, IS and production control systems
  • Experience in utilizing client server accounting or enterprise resource software such as Timberline
  • Highly proficient in the use of MS Excel
  • Ability to coordinate projects and work with all levels of management

Educational Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or related field
  • MBA, CPA, or CMA desired
