Purpose 

Reporting to the Sr Procurement Operations Analyst this role will be responsible for providing tactical execution support and project management for the apple procurement teamThe Sourcing Manager will work cross-functionally with manufacturing and other supply chain functions to support efforts to integrate category strategies.  

The Position  

  • Scope: As a member of the Apple Procurement team, the Operation Analyst’s role is to collaborate with the category manager to help facilitate key components of category strategies and process improvements resulting in improved apple quality and more efficient yard operationsAnnual spend ~$70MM for apple procurement, including buying expenses. 
  • Direct reports: This position will be responsible to oversee and provide direction to ~30 hourly union employees that receive in raw apples (year-round) and ~15 temporary workers during apple harvest. 

This is a new position being created on the Apple Procurement TeamLooking for an individual who has a drive to challenge the status quo, create new processes and procedures, and be flexible as we work to define this new role.  

 

Accountabilities 

  • Safety 
  • Employee management and safety of ~30 hourly employees (including union relationship and grievance process), and ~15 temporary workers during apple harvest. 
  • Collaborate with cross functional team to ensure food safety plans are being upheld. Responsible to report any potential deficiencies in conjunction with R&D regulatory and/or Quality. 

 

  • Quality 
  • Follow master blend strategy and place orders of apples from apple storages 
  • Ensure proper quality of apples are being delivered to the plant 
  • Ensure completion of daily and weekly quality tests on apples 
  • Collect and work with logistics team to ship apples to quality labs for testing 
  • Monthly apple storage checks for ~15 apple storages in Wayne and Monroe County 
  • Managing apple inspection, including temporary workforce during harvest  
  • Ensure RFID protocol is followed to ensure traceability of apples throughout the supply chain 

 

  • Delivery 
  • Responsible for daily activities associated with receiving apples direct from apple growers, 3rd party warehouses, or west coast deliveries. 
  • Complete daily yield report and send to stakeholders 
  • Apple receiving year-round, working with apple growers and truck drivers delivering apples to the Williamson manufacturing site 
  • Create daily apple order and blend to manufacturing plant, ensure 100% fill rate 
  • Interact with external/internal drivers to ensure receiving activities are accurate, timely and follow category manager's strategic plan. 
  • Review each day’s receipts, submit purchases for approval and execute material moves in SAP. 
  • Control the allocation of Mott’s apple boxes during harvest 
  • Interview, hire and train hourly yard employees along with the Plant Operations team 
  • Work with temporary workforce agency to hire inspection and tagging crews for harvest 
  • Ensure truck scales are operational and certified on an annual basis 
  • Collaborate with the manufacturing team to improve relationships, reduce costs and increase apple yield 
  • Plan bulk juice truck deliveries and work with plant on NSAJ production schedules 

 

  • Productivity 
  • Manage Yard Budget 
  • Ensure PM completion on Forklift and Trucks 
  • Complete building M&R as needed 
  • Work with cross functional team on productivity projects 
  • Review all submitted invoices for accuracy, code and submit to manager for approval 

 

  • Growth 
  • Help develop and execute the apple sourcing strategy 
  • 100% completion of Training (Alchemy) for you and your team 
  • Execution of Capex Projects 
  • Execution of Technology Implementation  
  • Assist buyers with projects to include grower meetings, industry events, mailings, etc

 

Requirements:

Relationships/Interpersonal  

  • Be a strong team player with other critical cross functional groups 
  • A collaborative management style with the ability to build partnerships both internally and externally 
  • Have passion to drive continuous improvement 
  • Ability to lead small cross functional teams to drive for shared goals 
  • Assist growers with questions, inquiries pertaining to grower account 

Prerequisites: 

  • 3-5 years’ work experience in the food industry preferable 
  • Experience with managing an hourly workforce in a manufacturing environment  
  • Bachelor’s degree or similar, with emphasis on supply chain, operation, or Business Administration 
  • Agriculture experience preferred 
  • Strong people and communication skills 
  • Strong computer skills, proficient in in Microsoft Excel and Word and ERP Systems (SAP) 
  • Perform in fast paced environment with ever changing priorities 
Total Rewards:
  • This is an exempt, salaried position paid on a biweekly cycle. Compensation is flexible and determined by the candidate's experience level. Salary Range -  $72,100 - $126,200.
