ABOUT THE ROLE

Amsted Automotive, Saginaw TransForm, is looking for a CNC Tooling Specialist to be responsible for maintaining control over the programing, maintenance and operation of our Wire EDM and related equipment.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Supervise (indirectly) machine operator duties that includes writing program packs, set-up miscellaneous details and parts to be wire cut.
  • Responsible for Job Boss implementation and maintenance of the system.
  • Establish schedules and follow internal manufacturing of perishable tooling.
  • Maintain perishable tooling inventory per plant production schedule requirements.
  • Work with Tooling Engineers to optimize manufacturing processes and perishable tool life.
  • Follow schedule for W.E.D.M. miscellaneous cleaning of machine, i.e. remove used wire.
  • Clean setup equipment.
  • Clean sponge and paper filters as needed.
  • Paper filter to be cleaned bi-monthly.
  • Machine area to be cleaned following the 5S schedule.
  • W.E.D.M. Leader duties include:
    • Keep normal supplies on hand for W.E.D.M. machines.
    • Make sure machines are properly maintained.
    • Power feed contacts rotated or replaced.
    • Vertical alignment of wire is correct (done weekly or more frequently).
    • Daily check of power wire ends for corrosion.
    • Schedule machine maintenance with internal and external resources as needed.
  • Do simple die/gauge designs for new parts and assigns to CAD/W.E.D.M. Programmers for detailing.
  • Write program packs.
  • Operate CAD and create detail and miscellaneous drawings for other areas and functions.
  • Maintain accurate records for burn times and maintenance.
  • Schedule routine and preventative maintenance and major overhauls.
  • Work closely with Tooling Engineering on assigned projects outside of normal production tooling requirements.
  • Set up and operate all equipment associated with Wire EDM and train new operators to get maximum usage from capital equipment in the wire burning department.
  • Follow up with and influence Tool Room Leaders to assure accurate production of details.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO SUCCEED

  • Associates Degree in Machining Technology or equivalent strongly preferred
  • Experience as a Journeyman Tool & Die Maker in a manufacturing environment strongly preferred
  • Overall, at least 3 years of experience in a heavy manufacturing environment required

  • This position is based in a heavy manufacturing environment for an operation that runs 24/5. This may require some off hours work and will require work around noise and other industrial hazards.
