Job Description
Hours: Part-Time, Monday – Friday
Shift: Before school 7:00 am – 8:00 or 9:00 am and After school 2:00 pm – 5:45pm (Times will vary depending on the school).
Location: Kensington, Jackson Heights, Big Cross, Queensbury, Lake George, Hadley Luzerne
The Family YMCA of the Glens Falls Area is seeking a Before and After School Teacher Aid to join our team!
The YMCA focuses on empowering people in all forms, by improving health and well-being and inspiring action in and across our neighborhoods. This position supports the work of the Y, a leading non-profit charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.
As a Before and After School Teacher Aid, you will support the YMCA BASE (Before and After School Enrichment) Program to serve our community with a variety of activity options to explore and develop interests and talents of the youth with a focus on safety, health, social growth, and academic enhancement for children to have fun and thrive in our care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain positive public relations with members and always represent the best interests of the YMCA.
- Maintain positive relationships and effective communication with parents regarding their child and other Y programming.
- Support academic goals and plans for attending children per OCFS requirements and YMCA policies.
- Promote a positive environment that fosters fun, safety, and our YMCA values which includes implementation of proximity praise, specific action compliments, positive reinforcement, and the Y’s 4 Core Values: Respect, Responsibility, Caring and Honesty.
- Maintain site and equipment, including properly implementing proper cleaning procedures and upkeep of equipment.
- Attend, participate and lead various program activities. Including but not limited to organized games, arts and crafts, STEM and other enrichment activities.
- Attend monthly staff development meetings the second Saturday of each month and other trainings as required.

- You are at least 16 years old.
- You have at least one year of experience working with children under 13 years of age.
- You are willing to complete OCFS (Office of Children and Family Services) training requirements and paperwork. 15 hours within the first six months/30 hours over the next 2 years.
- You are currently certified (with documentation) or are willing to certify in Infant-Child CPR and Basic First Aid within 30 days of employment (YMCA will assist in this process.)
- You are willing to submit a background clearance (fingerprinting) with OCFS and reference check (before the first day of employment).
- You are able to provide proof of a negative TB test within the last 12 months and submit a medical statement on forms provided prior to starting at a BASE site.
- You are able to complete online Child Abuse Prevention training, and other online and in-person training as required.
- You have reliable transportation and the ability to assist at other BASE sites as needed.
