Overview

Who We Are:
The Economic Services Division (ESD) is responsible for the administration of benefits to help Vermonters meet their basic needs. ESD is one of 5 divisions under the Department of Children and Families (DCF) which is one of the largest departments (1000 employees) within the largest agency (Agency of Human Services) in the state of Vermont.

ESD Leadership recognizes that the division's biggest resource is our staff and is committed to continuously looking at ways to strengthen and support our workforce.

This position is located in the Rutland district office which is known for excellent teamwork, flexibility, and dedication to the work and each other.

The Role:

The Economic Services Supervisor's primary role is to support office staff; this person will supervise staff who determine the eligibility of those who have applied for benefits. ESD is looking for someone to join the Rutland team who:

* can demonstrate empathy, concern, and respect for all customers

* is a critical thinker who can apply program rules to complex and dynamic situations

* can support staff in dealing with difficult situations

* thrives in a busy work environment--in the office and virtually

* has experience working with individuals who may be distraught and emotional

* thinks critically about systems and processes and looks for improvements

AHS BACKGROUND CHECKS: Candidates must pass any level of background investigation applicable to the position. Environmental Factors

Duties are performed primarily in a standard office setting within a district office. Some travel may be necessary, for which private transportation must be available. Stressful interaction with upset or emotional clients may occur. Staff workload may frequently be heavy.

Minimum Qualifications

High School diploma or equivalent AND five (5) years as a Benefits Program Specialist or Reach Up Case Manager or case management experience at the same level in a human services, employment and training or education field.

OR

Associates degree AND three (3) years as a Benefits Program Specialist or Reach Up Case Manager or case management experience at the same level in a human services, employment and training or education field.

OR

Bachelor's degree or higher AND one (1) year as a Benefits Program Specialist or Reach Up Case Manager or case management experience at the same level in a human services, employment and training or education field.
