Heidelberg Materials is seeking a Plant Equipment Mechanic for our Brooklyn facility located in Brooklyn, NY.

What you’ll get to do:

The tasks of this position applies to all the functions listed below associated with each task: housekeeping, PM duties, lubrication, mechanical repairs, and routing functions associated with:

  • Proficiency in mechanical troubleshooting and repairs of plant equipment
  • Welding/cutting
  • Rigging of loads of various materials and weight
  • Use of crane, fork lift, man lift and other similar mobile equipment
  • Use of hand tools such as grinders, drills, hydraulic presses, lathes, etc.
  • Troubleshooting of various mechanical controls
  • Reset of electrical breakers
  • LOTOTO of plant equipment
  • Follows all safety policies, including the proper use of personal protective equipment. Maintains an awareness of plant environmental standards. Takes corrective action to address minor problems or reports compliance issues to appropriate supervisor for resolution.

  • Associate's degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school;
  • Certification as a Millwright or minimum five years welding and related mechanical experience and/or training; Or equivalent combination of education and training.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as reading and interpreting mechanical blueprints, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively with employees of organization.
  • Ability to work on all types of bearings/housings/gearbox assemblies, etc.
  • Ability to weld, cut, and basic fabrication from metals. Lathe and mill machine experience a plus.
  • Inspect and test plant machinery and equipment, observe mechanical devices in operation and detect malfunctions. Discuss machine operation variations with supervisors or other maintenance workers to diagnose problem or repair machine.
  • Dismantle equipment and install new or repaired parts. Move machinery and equipment. Inspect used parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements.
  • Perform routine maintenance procedures and adjustments.
  • Install and maintain hydraulic and pneumatic equipment as required.
  • Use hand tools; operate basic machines tools as directed.
  • Perform all aspects of welding (including stick, MIG, acetylene torch and carbon arc) for general shop and field work, including structural steel fabrication and modifications, sheet metal fabrication and machine rebuild/repair.
  • Read blueprints, schematic drawings and manuals to determine work procedures and diagnose problems.
  • Follow oral or written instructions and work assignments. Complete checklists and work orders as required.
  • Lubricate equipment as required during maintenance procedures or as part of the lubrication routes. Report any observed leaks or abnormal lubricant usage.
  • Clean and refill oil reservoirs and sumps as required.
  • Maintain general cleanliness of work areas. Move waste lubricants to the appropriate storage areas.
  • Maintain all tools and equipment used on the job in good working order.
  • Participate in the training of mechanical maintenance apprentices and new employees.
  • Follow all safety policies, including the proper use of personal protective equipment. Maintain an awareness of plant environmental standards. Take corrective action to address minor problems or reports compliance issues to appropriate supervisor for resolution.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

  • Employee must be able to work at heights.
  • Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC)
  • Ability to work well with others.
