Job Summary:


Observe and monitor cardiac rhythms, recognize changes in regularity, configuration and rate of rhythm and report findings to appropriate physician. Appropriately document and communicate monitored recordings.

  • Dependable – We are a 24 hour Operation, and when you arrive at work, you are relieving another employee that has worked for 12 hours. We are supportive of family and personal issues that sometimes arise. Above average communication and collaboration with supervision and Co-Workers is paramount for success.

Although this is not a direct (in-person) patient care position, at times it requires interaction with the patient or family member to resolve communication and other issues. Must have the ability to relate to the end user and our clients, (Physicians’ Offices).

  • Performs continuous, accurate observations and interpretations of rhythms while promoting safe monitoring.
  • Identifies and enters the patient information. Measures and reports intervals of the cardiac rhythm and other parameters at designated intervals. Reports significant changes in monitor patterns and follows the scope of practice expectations.
  • Accurately recognizes and reports life threatening arrhythmias (i.e. Asystole, Vfib, Vtach) following department protocols.
  • Collaborate with RN to ensure appropriate alarms are set based on physician order or individual need.
  • Assure constant coverage of patient monitoring station.
  • Maintains a high focus on patient safety by troubleshooting equipment problems
  • Notifies appropriate person of needed battery replacement or electrode replacement in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrates yearly competency in skills necessary to ensure adequate knowledge of ECG interpretation and maintenance of monitoring equipment.
  • . Accurately documents patient rhythms following protocols.
  • Communicates reportable findings consistently and in a timely manner.
  • Uses the chain of command to ensure patient information is communicated effectively.
  • Delivers handoff covering pertinent observations at end of shift or at the time of hand off.
  • Assist in answering phone calls for the unit.
  • Takes direction from supervisor or shift lead.


Demonstrates proper maintenance and inventory of all equipment.

o Inventories and maintains supplies needed related to equipment. Ensures equipment needing repairs is submitted to the Biomedical department. Tracks equipment. Keeps equipment clean and ready for daily use.


Assumes an active role in mentoring team members.

o Uses knowledge and experience to facilitate the professional growth of existing colleagues and new team members.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications to Fulfill Job Responsibilities:

  • Basic ECG training, reading and interpretation at time of hire
  • License/Certification/Registration
  • 6 months or more of consistent rhythm interpretation experience.


Preferred

  • 1+ years of rhythm interpretation


Education

  • Completion of formal Medical Assistant, EMT, Nursing Assistant or other formal health science education program.
  • Completion of ECG interpretation course and certification
  • Formal ECG training.
  • License/Certification/Registration
  • ECG Certification


Additional Requirements (must be obtained or completed within a period of time):

Successful completion of:


1) the annual ECG test.

2) Completing periodic skill level aptitude test with grade of 80 or better.
