Welding Supervisor

Welding Supervisor Summary: This hands-on position will provide strong leadership, guidance, and direction to welding employees. Strong interpersonal and technical skills are needed. This person will directly supervise, train, and coach production leads and employees and work closely with the operations manager in implementing policies, practices, and standard work procedures.

Welding Supervisor Essential Duties and/or Responsibilities:

• Maintain a safe and clean work environment by educating and directing personnel on using all control points, equipment, and resources, maintaining compliance with established policies and procedures.
• Ensure all product complies with engineering print specifications and customer standards to meet fulfillment goals in coordination with the Plant Manager.
• Complete production plan by scheduling and assigning personnel; establishing priorities; monitoring progress; revising schedules; resolving problems and reporting results to the operations manager.
• Build a high-performance work team, minimize turnover, and maximize labor efficiencies. Supervise 20+ production staff and provide technical direction as necessary to the weld department workforce.
• Ensure a high level of staff productivity by communicating job expectations, monitoring daily performance, and appraising job results;
• When applicable, perform employee coaching, counseling, and or disciplinary activities with direct employees.
• Collaboratively with the VP of Operations, Operations Manager, and HR Manager, working to maintain appropriate staffing levels by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training employees.
• Maintain visibility and presence within the plant, interacting with staff throughout the shifts and being available and responsive to staff needs.
• Influence and recommend selection of equipment and tools to enhance safety and productivity. Ensure current equipment is properly maintained through TPM methodologies.
• Resolve personnel problems by analyzing data; investigating issues; working with Operations/HR Managers to identify solutions and recommend action.
• Other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience:

• Production or Operations Management in a similar environment
• 2-5+ years of experience conducting MIG welding tasks.
• 2-5+ years of experience in management/supervision in a welding environment.
• Experience supervising and coaching employees, managing processes, process improvement, production planning, controls and instrumentation and dealing with complexity.
• Able to read and understand product blueprints.

Work Environment/Physical Demands

• Fast-paced mfg. Environment, with many moving elements.
• The environment includes but is not limited to powered lift equipment, conveyors, high temp ovens, welders, presses, saws, and other shop floor equipment.
• Ability to operate industrial equipment, including physical bending, lifting (50 lbs.), and turning.
• Ability to withstand long periods of time standing on the shop floor; tolerance of high and low temperatures (depending on the time of year), dust, and loud noise levels.
