Job Objective: To solicit and secure corporate, civic, and religious group opportunities to enhance operations, program, capital, administrative and special project support to promote the advancement of the mission of The Salvation Army. This includes increased financial contributions, volunteerism while increasing the visibility our organization in the community. Requires effective portfolio management via regularly visiting / communicating with an established caseload and prospect list while maintaining successful stewardship and cultivation of the donor base.

Essential Functions:

  • Provide leadership for all corporate development and engagement opportunities, including soliciting financial support through sponsorships, engaging companies in volunteer activities, and managing corporate relationships
  • Responsible for all corporate sponsorship solicitations, both returning partners and new prospects. To include coordinating with other gift officers
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with key corporate, civic, and religious funders
  • Manage a caseload of 150 static assigned portfolio donors. With up to an additional 50 corporate donors on an ongoing prospect engagement list
  • Establish, manage, and fulfill a caseload communication plan, including fundraising goals and personalized strategies to effectively steward, cultivate and solicit gifts from the donor portfolio
  • Develop and implement overall annual strategies for corporate, civic, and religious organization donor engagement and solicitation
  • Cultivate strategic relationships with corporate stakeholders. This includes identifying high caliber volunteer leadership individuals in coordination with The Executive Director of Development and Senior Development Director (Example: Christmas Chair, advisory board members, volunteer committees)
  • Serve as trainer/advisor for Field Corps in corporate partner development by providing expertise in donor solicitation
  • Visible to greater Kansas City Advisory Board
  • Attend and represent The Salvation Army by attending at least local civic organizations on a weekly / monthly basis. (Rotary, Kiwanis, Chamber of Commerce)
  • Successfully work with Divisional Grants Manager where corporate or foundational crossover cooperation exist and is necessary

General Functions:

  • Create and promote a positive work environment through teamwork mentality and creative problem-solving
  • Represent Salvation Army in civic groups as assigned
  • Make presentations on Salvation Army matter before corporate, religious, civic, and funding groups

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor's level degree with 2-4 years of donor management, non-profit development or sales related experience preferred; relevant experience in lieu of degree will be considered

Experience: Strong organizational skills including ability to think strategically and independently, prioritize multiple tasks, and manage projects; Demonstrated ability to work with minimal direction and effectively operate in an environment of frequent change, limited definition and changing priorities; Demonstrated ability to develop and foster teamwork and an environment of cooperation and collaboration; Excellent written and oral communication skills. Sales, business development or sponsorship experience is a plus

  • Must possess excellent communication skills with the ability to work harmoniously as part of a team within a culturally diverse environment
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills, with the ability to establish and build relationships
  • Supervisory skills and the ability to build and motivate teams
  • Computer literate including proficiency in Microsoft Office, Outlook and databases
  • Possess an aptitude in both written and oral communication with public speaking experience
  • Good organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines
  • Techniques for dealing with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, ethnic and cultural backgrounds

Supervisory Responsibility: None

Physical Requirements: include sitting; climbing and/or balancing; stooping, kneeling, bending, stretching, crouching and/or crawling; standing; walking; manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination; use of vision; driving a vehicle; pushing/pulling/lifting/carrying 25 pounds; traveling by airplane; both outdoor and indoor navigation of settings, and standing and/or walking up to 12 hours per day. Communication demands: include professionally communicating verbally with co-workers, other departments and program staff, clients, vendors, donors, volunteers, board members, and officers; written communication; talking on the telephone; responding to written or verbal requests; training/giving verbal and written instructions; receiving verbal and written instructions; writing/composing written language; reading; visiting/working at other worksites and non-worksite locations; communication via the latest technologies.

Travel: Occasional travel within division and for training opportunities.

Driving: Driving is required. Must possess a valid driver's license from the state in which you reside. Requires approval through The Salvation Army Fleet Safety Program to drive either a Salvation Army or personal vehicle on Salvation Army business.

Working Conditions: Daily work will be performed in a typical office environment; may require occasional weekend and evening work. Event work may include hotels, indoor/outdoor venues, Corps Community Centers, and other public venues.
