Job Description

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory (NNL) Security Department is looking for a Deputy Manager. The Security Department is a joint entity serving both NNL and Bechtel Plant Machinery Inc. (BPMI), and it is staffed with employees of both companies. The department protects the people, information, and facilities of both prime contractors from security threats including terrorism, foreign intelligence collection, and workplace violence. The Security Department Deputy Manager supervises the entire Security Department except for the Department Manager, the department Executive Assistant, and BPMI Security. Security Department elements led by the Security Department Deputy Manager include Information Security, Personnel Security and Strategic Planning, Security Engineering, the Naval Reactors Protective Force, and Security Investigations and Insider Threat. Success in this role requires the incumbent to work closely with and advise the Security Department Manager; supervise a large, geographically dispersed workforce, many of whom are represented by labor unions; interact frequently with Naval Reactors security personnel on challenging issues; make key decisions and set strategic direction as a member of the Security Department's senior leadership team; and partner extensively with colleagues across NNL to ensure the security of the laboratory while supporting the efficient completion of Naval Reactors Program work.

Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a related field and previous experience managing managers; or
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience and previous experience managing managers.
Preferred Skills
  • Substantial knowledge of and experience in the security disciplines of physical, information, and/or personnel security
  • Substantial knowledge of and experience applying security requirements set forth in the Code of Federal Regulations, DOE orders, and Naval Reactors directives
  • Experience supervising a geographically dispersed workforce
  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills to lead a large team and work laterally with colleagues in other departments and Naval Reactors
  • Demonstrated ability to take a principles-based and risk-based approach to security challenges in ways that support the completion of priority work
  • Developing and implementing security best practices across the Enterprise
  • Planning and executing the SD budget in accordance with financial objectives

Pay Range

$188,100 - $305,700 annually

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is operated for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) by Fluor Marine Propulsion, LLC (FMP), a wholly owned subsidiary of Fluor Corporation.
