California Western School of Law (CWSL), San Diego seeks applicants for a Reference and Access Services Librarian (Reference Librarian). The Reference Librarian manages the circulation desk, hires, and manages student workers. This position provides general legal reference services to the law school faculty, students, staff, alumni, the bench, bar and other authorized users. Provides formal and informal bibliographic instruction, including teaching Legal Research.

The primary responsibilities (include but are not limited to):

  • Performs all duties and responsibilities with a team approach and is able to collaborate well with other professionals
  • Provide reference assistance at the reference desk, which may include evening and weekend hours;
  • Manage Circulation desk.
  • Hire and manage circulation desk student workers.
  • Provide specialized services to the law faculty, including advanced research, bibliographies and current awareness;
  • Prepare bibliographies and other user aids, including multimedia tutorials, lessons, and guides;
  • Maintain the Library?s online resources webpage (currently a LibGuide);
  • Provide individual instruction on the use of resources in print, electronic and other formats;
  • Distribute WESTLAW/LEXIS account information to faculty, staff and students;
  • In charge of Library when on duty during weekend and evening hours;
  • Fill in at the circulation desk as needed.
  • Improve or automate processes as needed.
  • Work with appropriate level of assistance, instruction and supervision.
  • Proactively advise the Head of Reference & Access Services of project status, potential issues and overall project progress.
  • Perform, with team approach, other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Master?s degree in Library or Information Science from an accredited library school or enrollment in such a program.
  • Juris Doctor Degree from an ABA-accredited law school preferred.
  • Prior academic law library experience preferred.

Computer Skills:

  • Must possess a high level of computer skills and proficiency using MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook.
  • Knowledge and proficiency in social media is required.
  • Must be familiar with Internet search engines.
  • Must be highly proficient with legal research databases such as Westlaw, Lexis/Nexis, and familiar with other legal and government resources.
  • Must possess knowledge of effective internet search properties.
  • Aptitude for learning new technology will be beneficial.

CWSL COVID-19 Vaccine Policy

In accordance with the California Western School of Law policy, students, faculty, and staff must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or provide a valid medical or religious exemption to access campus. Individuals are considered fully vaccinated for five months after their final dose of a two-dose COVID-19 vaccine or for two months after receiving the only dose of a single-dose vaccine. Afterward a COVID-19 booster is required to continue to be considered fully vaccinated. The individual hired into this role will be required to submit their completed vaccination documentation. Salary: $67,980.00 (Final salary and rates are based on education, experience, skills relevant to the role, and internal equity.)
