OVERVIEW:
This position is responsible for operating X-ray and fluoroscopic equipment that assists radiologists and/or physicians with diagnosing and/or treating disease and/or injury.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
- Transport mobile x-ray equipment to Emergency Department or patients room
- Transport patient in a safe manner, request assistance as needed
- Prepares patient for radiologic procedures
- Positions patients and takes X-ray of specific parts of the patient’s body as requested by physicians
- Perform procedures according to department protocols
RESPONSIBILITIES/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:
- Must be registered with AART holding RT-R and RT-CT.
- Protects patient, self, and other staff from radiation hazards
- Takes X-Ray following established procedures for patient care and safety, which involves setting up and operating radiographic equipment used in medical diagnosis and /or treatment of patients and includes implementing infection control procedures for the work area.
- Selects proper ionizing factors for radiological diagnosis. Adjusts/sets radiographic controls
- Develop and process radiological film. Checks X-ray for clarity of image, retaking when needed.
- Distributes X-ray to appropriate medical staff.
- Maintains required records including patients records, daily logbooks, and monthly reports.
- Performs quantity and quality control checks to assure X-ray unit meets standards required by laws, rules, and department policies.
- Complies with safety standards.
- Cleans, maintains, and make minor adjustments to radiographic equipment, including determining equipment repairs.
- Maintains radiographic supplies, films, and orders, as necessary.
- Knowledge of X-ray procedures and protocols
- Knowledge of anatomy and physiology necessary to perform X-ray testing including body mechanics and patient movement
- Knowledge of radiology equipment including safety hazards common to radiology
- Identifying equipment problems and correcting or notifying supervisor
- Following infection control and radiological safety procedures
- Lift and position patients for the type of X-ray procedure required
- Notice detail in drawing and differences in shapes and shading
- Read and write instructions, and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos
- Performs any other duties that may be necessary for the operation of the corporation and/or hospital
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be registered with ARRT holding RT-R and RT-CT
- Associate degree in radiological technology from accredited Radiologic Technologist program.
- High school diploma
- One to three years of experience as Radiologic Technologist, preferably in medical practice environment.
- American Registry of Radiologic Technologist registration preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Varied activities including standing, walking, reaching, bending, lifting
- Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patient’s manual and finger dexterity and eye hand coordination
- Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time
- Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 100 pounds
- Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal ranges
- Requires working under stressful conditions or working irregular hours
- Exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to a hospital and/or clinic environment
