JOB DETAILS

POSITION TITLE: Food Service Assistant

DEPARTMENT: Retreat

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

PAY: $17.00

REPORTS TO: Food Service Manager


GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

Serve food and beverages in a manner which accommodates physical and physiological limitations of members and ensures the operations of the Food Service Department runs smoothly.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

The list of essential functions, as outlined herein, is intended to be representative of the tasks performed within this classification. It is not necessarily descriptive of any one position in the class. · Set and clear tables and arrange furniture as needed.

· Serves and prepares some menu items (e.g. desserts, salads, coffee, juice soda and water) to members in a supportive and accommodating manner and checks and properly fills food service-related dispensers to meet the daily needs of the users.

· Assists members as needed to ensure their safety during the meal (e.g. helping them to maneuver their chairs and removing any obstacles which could create tripping hazards).

· Maintaining daily kitchen clean up duties.

· Wash dishes and breakdown the dishwasher to ensure proper sanitization after each use

· Sweep, dry and wet mop floor by completely covering surface with correct solution and removing all spillage, stains, dirt, debris and/or miscellaneous matter from fibers according to required frequency.

· Cleans surfaces in eating area as assigned or as an identified as needing attention (e. g. walls, windows, light fixtures, ceilings, furniture, equipment and miscellaneous surfaces removing dust, dirt, debris, and/or miscellaneous matter from surface leaving a streak less, clean appearances).

· Checks and properly fills food service-related dispensers to meet the daily needs of the users.

· Dry and wet mop floors completely covering floor and removing all spillage, stains, dirt, debris and/or miscellaneous matter from fibers according to required frequency.

· Vacuums carpets removing all dust, dirt, debris and/or miscellaneous matter from fibers according to required frequency.

· Ensures trash, cans and bottles are packaged, transported, disposed or recycled according to established regulatory guidelines.

· Empties receptacles and/or picks them up according to required frequency.

· Break down boxes and take to the trash.

· Set tables for next person to come and dine.

· Follows all organizational and departmental policies.

· Completes other appropriate duties as required.

Additional Job Functions

· Maintains confidentiality of all members’ information while assists co-workers, members, visitors and volunteers in a respectful and dignified manner.

· Ensuring a pleasing environment in the serving area for members’ enjoyment during the meal (e.g. addressing members in a calm and respectful manner, keeping the dining room organized and quiet).

· Leaves equipment in good operating condition for the next co-worker.

· Uses chemicals according to OSHA Hazard Communication Standard (Right-to-Know) and chemical safety.

· Recognizing changes in behavior or appearance of members’ which could signal possible changes in their conditions. Reporting observed changes to Service Manager or Food Service Manager or on-call nurse as soon as the changes are identified.

· Understands the working and cleaning schedules, reports (e.g. quality assurance), appearance standards, frequencies and time standards.

· Reacts appropriately to fire and emergency preparedness drills and events according to policies.

·
Understands infection control and salty guidelines as required by various regulatory agencies. Utilizes personal protective equipment to protect self and co-workers from injury. Utilizes good body mechanics and lifting techniques.

· Performs other duties as assigned


MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

Education: High School diploma or GED desirable.

Minimum Years of Experience: One (1) year experience in a healthcare food service position or two (2) years’ experience in commercial, hospitality or other food service setting desirable.

Active Certification in good Standing: Will be required to attend to obtain Food Handler’s Certificate (e.g. Serve Safe).

Demonstrate skills: Must be able to communicate extremely well with individuals who are affected by psychiatric conditions. Must have excellent customer service skills.

Knowledge: Must have knowledge in serving food and beverages in a manner which accommodates physical and physiological limitations of members. Have knowledge to recognizing changes in behavior or appearance of members.

Bilingual: preferred – Language Spanish
