Key Responsibilities:

  • The Lifeguard plays a vital role in ensuring the safety and well-being of all patrons at the pool facility. This position involves monitoring activities in and around the pool, enforcing safety regulations, responding to emergencies, and providing assistance and guidance to swimmers as needed.

Description of Duties:

  • Enforce pool rules and ensure you are knowledgeable about all pool & community center rules.
  • Monitor daily pool-related activities closely throughout shift, identify any safety issues, and performance of life saving procedures per training. Includes pool parties.
  • Assist with opening and closing the pool depending on schedule, hours, & conditions. This includes:
    • Setup & breakdown of furniture and lifeguard stations.
    • Pick up trash or debris on the pool deck or in the water & properly dispose of items
  • Work with other Recreation Department staff to maintain required pool occupancy levels.
  • Monitor weather reports closely to ensure safety of guests.
  • Oversee pool parties.
  • Participate in SVCA offered trainings.
  • Maintain a clean environment in and around the pool:
    • Vacuuming of pool.
    • Skimming of debris off surface.
  • Provide other assistance to patrons when appropriate or necessary.

Requirements:

  • American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification or other equivalent certification from a qualified agency. Must include First Aid and CPR certifications (or willingness to obtain prior to pool opening).
  • Ability to pass pre-employment practical skills test in the water.
  • Experience teaching swim lessons or coaching swim team highly desirable
  • Flexible schedule required.

Supervision:

  • Works under the direction of the Assistant Manager of Parks & Recreation and Head Lifeguard

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

  • Bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, lifting, and carrying approximately 25 pounds at waist high level.
    Frequent sitting, some standing, and walking required. Use of computer terminal and keyboard. Moderate to
    high requirement for hand coordination, visual ability, and cognitive abilities. Must tolerate moderate noise
    levels and interruptions in an open office environment. Works indoors in controlled conditions and outdoors
    in potential inclement weather.
