Role: Senior Director, Product Management

Focus: Couchbase Server Platform

Location: US - in-office or remote

Couchbase is looking for a senior director of product manager for its core server platform.

Couchbase provides cutting-edge data management solutions, empowering businesses to unlock the full potential of their data. Our flagship product, Couchbase Server, caters to both self-managed deployments and our fully managed database service, Capella, offering unparalleled performance and flexibility for adaptive applications in the AI-powered era.

Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Ownership: Take charge of defining the strategy and vision for the Couchbase Server platform across self-managed and Capella deployments.
  • Initiative Development: Drive key platform initiatives through the New Service Introduction (NSI) process, ensuring cross-functional alignment and necessary investments for successful execution.
  • Product Roadmap: Develop a comprehensive product roadmap for Couchbase Server, aligning with customer needs and positioning it as the premier data platform for adaptive applications in today's AI-driven landscape.
  • Customer Engagement: Articulate the value propositions and vision of our platform to customers, actively gathering and incorporating their feedback to enhance product offerings.
  • Team Management: Manage and mentor individual Product Managers within core platform areas, establishing best practices and fostering their professional growth.
  • Engineering Collaboration: Collaborate closely with Engineering to deliver sustained differentiations for the core server platform, ensuring continuous innovation and excellence.
  • Market Analysis: Work closely with Product Marketing to conduct competitive landscape analysis and define Go-To-Market (GTM) product positioning strategies.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Communication and Leadership: Demonstrated proficiency in communication, public speaking, and product leadership, with a knack for inspiring and aligning teams towards shared goals.
  • Strategic Thinking: Ability to balance strategic thinking with tactical execution, driving initiatives that align with broader company objectives.
  • Technical Expertise: Strong understanding of large-scale distributed systems design and operational challenges, with deep knowledge of distributed database concepts such as Scalability, Fault Tolerance, CP Theorem, Consensus Algorithms, and ACID transactions.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's/Master's degree in Computer Science or equivalent field.
  • 20+ years of combined experience in software engineering/development and product management, preferably in enterprise software and services.
  • Experience in areas such as Big Data, Distributed Systems, High-Performance Systems, and Cloud Infrastructure.
The anticipated starting base pay range for this role is listed below. Base salary is not the only component of our competitive total rewards package - you may also be eligible for bonus, commissions, equity, and other benefits as described below. Actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, licenses and certifications, and specific work location.
