Job Description
General Responsibilities:
It is the responsibility of all EOAC employees to support EOACs mission and goals, to respect the confidentiality of all who come to us for information or assistance, and to personally maintain the dignity and integrity of one who is placed in a position of public trust. We all bear the responsibility of improving the organization, communicating openly and empowering each other to excel at our work and maintain confidentiality of client/agency information as required by State and Federal laws, appropriate regulations, and professional practice standards.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED preferred
  • One year custodial or related work experience
  • Must have scheduling flexibility to include availability to perform occasional emergency services outside of assigned work hours
  • Must have valid Texas Drivers License
  • Must enroll in Child Care Division Central Background Registry before being hired for this position
  • Must pass DMV check, Drug Screen test, and Physical Capacity Examination before being hired for this position
  • Ability to communicate (verbal and written) effectively and appropriately with others
  • Ability to read and follow detailed written and verbal instructions
  • Ability to use mechanical equipment, such as carpet cleaner, floor scrubber, vacuum, tools, etc.
  • Ability to use various chemicals and cleaning agents
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Daily standing for periods of several hours while executing various tasks
  • Regular crouching, bending, twisting, stooping, kneeling, etc. to facilitate various repairs and maintenance activities; includes occasional ladder climbing and crawling under equipment, buildings, etc.
  • Regular reaching, including over-head to stock and retrieve supplies, equipment, painting, repairs, etc.
  • Must pass a Criminal History check
  • Must have CPR and First Aid certification
  • Daily lifting up to 50 lbs. to load and transport bulk supplies, furniture, fixtures, etc.
  • Occasional lifting of over 70 lbs. with assistance


Specific Responsibilities:
  1. Custodians will be responsible for scheduling custodial duties around their other assigned responsibilities and complete required activities on a daily or weekly basis
  2. Restroom Cleaning Procedures:
    1. Flush toilets and urinals, put bowl cleaner into urinal and toilet bowls so that the cleaner may be working while the other cleaning is being done
    2. Dust walls, vents, tops of doors, partitions, etc.
    3. Refill all towel, tissue, and soap dispensers. Check all units to see if they are functioning properly.
    4. Pick up trash and sweep floors
    5. With glass cleaner, clean all mirrors, light fixtures and piping under the sinks
    6. Empty all waste containers and clean them inside and out with disinfectant cleaner
    7. To clean washbasins, apply cleaner to all bowls with spray bottle, and then return to first bowl. Thoroughly clean and rinse all surfaces including fixtures. If a hard water problem exists, use a mild acid cleaner according to directions. Dry and polish all bowls. Check faucets for dripping and also check drain flow. Dont use toilet bowl cleaner on washbasins.
    8. Use disinfectant cleaner to spot clean walls, partitions, doors, frames, etc.
    9. Use bowl brush to clean all urinals and toilet bowls, inside and out. Wash lid and seat area with disinfectant cleaner. Rinse and dry all surfaces
    10. Prepare disinfectant cleaner according to directions on container and mop the restroom floors
  3. Custodians will vacuum hallways and other common areas as needed. Classroom and kitchen staff will maintain their own areas. All staff are responsible to clean and keep clean their individual work stations. Vacuums are provided for this task.
  4. Check to be sure paper products are within easy reach of children
  5. Check to assure all aerosol cans and/or cleaning products are stored, locked up, and out of reach of children
  6. Check electrical outlets in common areas for safety covers. Replace missing electrical outlet covers immediately
  7. Replace burned out light bulbs as needed or required. Make request that fluorescent tubes be replaced
  8. Check outside areas and remove any obstruction and/or debris
  9. Check playgrounds areas and remove any obstructions and/or debris
  10. Check safe zones on the playground which includes but is not limited to the area under the swings, slides, and climbers. These areas must be raked on a daily basis making sure the materials in these areas are loose and level
  11. Custodians will help staff whenever and wherever possible with areas needing attention over and above the normal cleaning duties within their regularly scheduled work hours
  12. It is the responsibility of all staff to take action on site in case of emergency; drains backing up or plugged, electrical problems, water flooding, toilets leaking, etc. Immediately turn off the area of concern when possible. Immediately call a professional to repair the problem. Remember: (Call central office for an emergency purchase order number when following the procedure.)
  13. Report all major facilities emergencies to the Administrative Services Manager or the Executive Director
  14. Custodians, in conjunction with other staff, will assure the grounds outside the facility are clean and litter free.
  15. Assist with moving office and classroom furniture, fixtures and equipment to support staffing changes, relocations, remodels, program expansion and custodial requirements
  16. Performs other duties as assigned
