Job Title: Lifeguard

Department: Aquatics

Reports to: Pool Supervisor

Location: BGCCA Troy Pool Facilities

Salary: $19 - $21 an hour

Classification: Seasonal; Full-time and Part-time roles available.


Pool Season Dates: June 10th - August 31st


Overview of Your Role:

As a Lifeguard for Boys & Girls Clubs of the Capital Area, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety of all pool patrons by monitoring the pool area and responding promptly and effectively to any incidents or emergencies during our Summer Program from July through Mid-August. You will also be responsible for maintaining a clean and organized environment in and around the pool, and may have the opportunity to provide swim lessons.


KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities):

  • Maintain constant surveillance of pool patrons, enforcing all rules and regulations in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Respond to all emergency situations immediately and appropriately, providing care as needed until medical professionals arrive.
  • Conduct regular checks of the pool and pool area to identify and address any safety hazards or concerns.
  • Provide exceptional customer service and assistance to pool patrons as needed.
  • May have the opportunity to teach swim lessons, depending on experience and certifications.
  • Complete opening and closing duties, which may include setting up pool equipment and cleaning the pool area.
  • Attend required training and staff meetings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Requirements:

CREDENTIALS, SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

  • At least 16 years of age
  • Current and valid American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification (or equivalent)
  • First Aid and CPR certifications
  • Experience teaching swim lessons is a plus
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment practical skills test in the water
  • Background Check Required
  • Flexible schedule required, including weekends


Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to stand, sit, or walk for extended periods of time
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
  • Must be able to work in outdoor environments in a variety of weather conditions
