The City of Lenexa’s Parks and Recreation Department is currently accepting applications for part-time, year-round Child Watch Attendants at our Rec Center.

Position Summary

Under the general guidance of the Recreation Center Customer Service Supervisor, this position is primarily responsible for monitoring the Kid Zone child watch areas and provides short-term child watch services. All work is done for the general purpose of maintaining safety, well-being and enrichment of the children while in the care of Kid Zone staff. Work is performed with latitude for the exercise of independent judgment and action to achieve and promote the City’s values: integrity, teamwork, service, vision, dedication, we care.

Our Kid Zone at the Lenexa Rec Center is open from 8:00am-12:00pm Monday through Saturday and 4:00pm-7:30pm Monday through Thursday.

We are currently looking for candidates who can work one or more of the following shift:

Weekday Morning Shift: 8:00am - 12:00pm, Monday through Saturday

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintains visual and auditory supervision at all times.
  • Implements a variety of activities for the enrichment of visiting children (sports, games, arts and crafts, etc.)
  • Enforces all child watch policies and rules, as well as general facility policies.
  • Maintains the Kid Zone area for cleanliness and safety.
  • Understands, follows, and enforces all discipline/behavior policies and procedures
  • Completes required forms and paperwork for signing children in and out of the area.
  • Completes and report any accidents or injuries occurring in the area.
  • Must be able to work evenings, weekends and holidays.

Additional Examples of Work Performed

  • Assists the front desk or other areas of the Recreation Center as needed.
  • Assists with Rec Center rentals and/or special event staffing as needed

Qualifications

Minimum: Must be 16 years of age at the time of employment and have previously worked with children, professionally or through volunteer work. Must possess or be able to obtain CPR/First Aid certification within first three months of hire.

Desired: Two years’ experience in one or more of the following program areas: childcare, general youth programming, arts and crafts, or sports and athletics. Teaching or previous child watch experience.

Starting rate of pay: $14.00 per hour.

Offers of employment are conditional upon successful completion of a pre-employment physical and drug screen. A background check is required if over the age of 18.
