Job Title: Product Configuration/ Technology & Document Control Engineer

Location: Troy, AL

SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE

The Product Configuration/ Technology & Document Control Engineer ensures all products are consistently manufactured to specification, implementing processes and procedures to ensure compliance with both customer and product specifications. will be the interface between Design Engineering, Manufacturing & Applications Engineering to drive proper documentation control, maintaining the systems up to date. This role will provide Document Management support to the entire team with processing Incoming/Outgoing documentation. The successful candidate will be responsible for part number generation, process routers and workflows, and drawing engineering change requests with approvals.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Create Engineering Masters for New Product Introduction and keep existing Masters updated with latest drawing revisions.
  • Introduce standard and special cutting tools into our ERP system with its corresponding part number.
  • Create shop travelers for new processes or update existing ones.
  • Update run rates for all manufacturing operations per CNC department or Assembly request.
  • Initiate ECN and track document reviews.
  • Optimize Document Control productivity, efficiency across all manufacturing departments.
  • Provide day-to-day support and overall administration of Visual system using both technical and functional skills.
  • Create Purchase Requisitions for fixture components, special tools and materials requested by manufacturing team.
  • Introduce new material numbers into our ERP system, calculate material per part based on cut size operations.
  • Create and monitor spreadsheets by manufacturing team request to provide accurate data for tooling, materials, fixtures, and other items needed. Maintain documentation in SharePoint.
  • Coordinate Project Management initiatives within a matrix organization. Will need to work with project department leads to ensure timely processing of documentation to help launch new products effectively.
  • Effectively utilize engineering drawings, sketches, or other written or oral instructions as well as tool design drawings.
  • Support the design Engineering Team creating Bill of Materials, ECRs creation and other tasks as needed.
  • Work with Applications Engineering to understand technology and equipment uses and requirements.
  • Develop timelines and project statuses for new technologies and tooling.
  • Familiarity with all manufacturing areas, identify CNC and Assembly machine assets.
  • Develop Power BI and excel Dashboards to keep KPI standards on track and monitor team progress on projects.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Identifying and managing the appropriate level of activities for the efficient introduction of product changes relative to the size and nature of desired change, ensuring appropriate tests have been carried out to verify the change.
  • Creation and management of product BOM’s, in all company systems, this includes both project systems and production systems (Excel and Visual)
  • Product and component technical feasibility analysis, covering all aspects of change including mechanical component, product performance evaluations including safety and reliability etc.
  • All other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with firearms.

  • Previous experience in new product introduction through the design and development phases prior to transfer to manufacture
  • Passion for process improvement and experienced in formal continuous improvement methodologies (Kaizen, Six Sigma etc.)
  • Knowledge and practical experience of working within a lean manufacturing environment.
  • Able to interpret customer and technical specs, drawings and engineering instructions and develop process control documentation, work instructions, process flow charts and related material to ensure repeatable manufacturing compliance of all products.
  • A highly driven, diligent individual who strives for accurate results in every aspect of their work.
  • A clear logical thinker with exceptional attention to detail and a persistent nature demonstrated by an inquisitive approach.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Required:

  • 3 - 5 years of mechanical drawing experience as related to the design and development of complex mechanical mechanisms
  • Computer/Software Proficiency: SolidWorks certification, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint

Preferred:

  • Experience with MRP Visual system
  • Project management skills: Microsoft Project or equivalent
  • Demonstrated understanding and application of documentation control systems and methods including change control, ANSI Y14.5 and GD&T

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret quality performance reports and create solutions. Ability to effectively present information to management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY

This position requires various reasoning abilities in order to be successful such as:

  • Ability to collect and document data
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions
  • Ability to perform complex and varied tasks
  • Ability to perform simple, repetitive tasks for an extended period of time

COMPUTER SKILLS

Required knowledge of MS Excel and MS Word using MS Windows platform. MS PowerPoint and Outlook.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

This position may require travel occasionally.
