Job Title:  UNARMED GUARD SERVICE

Location:  5756 Hartford Street, Joint Base MDL, New Jersey

Duties:

• All Bureau of Prisons security standards and procedures will be complied with by the guards.
• All incidents involving the use of force on an inmate by the guard personnel will be immediately reported to the Captain or Operations Lieutenant.
• The guards shall be responsible for the secure custody of all Bureau inmates from the time they are accepted in custody by the guards until they are properly removed from custody by an authorized Federal Official.
• The guards will, upon arriving for duty, search the hospital room for contraband and any other unusual items.
• Secure custody requires physical control of the inmate at all times. The physical control of the inmates by the guards shall be sufficient to prevent escape at all times.
• Maintain constant guard over, and direct visual observation of the inmate at all times. The contract guards shall apply the minimum restraints the BOP requires.
• Guards personnel shall not leave the inmate’s room for any reason (i.e., to smoke, eat, etc.) or order food from food establishments to be delivered to the room.

Education & Qualifications:

• One year (2040 hours) of experience of detention, corrections, security, law enforcement or active military service, or a S/BA in Criminal Justice.
• College level training in courses such as corrections or police science may be substituted

for experience at the ration of two hours of instruction for one hour of experience.

• Shall be in a good general health and able to perform job functions.
• Amputations, deformities or disabilities which prevent satisfactory performance of guard duties are disqualifying.
• Vision must be correctable to 20/30 (snellen) in one eye. The ability to distinguish basic colors is required.
• The ability to hear conversational voice without the use of a hearing device is required.
• The guards will not be permitted to smoke anywhere at any time during the tour of duty.
